Illuminated kick plate not lighting up

I all, I have an issue with one of my illuminated kick plates in that it has stopped working. I have removed it and exposed the wiring, and put a tester across the power supply to what looks like a control pack. There is 12v going in, but when tested across the output terminals (there are 3) I get a resistance reading of 300 odd ohms.

My question is are the boxes available from anywhere as spares, and if not, are they strictly necessary? Can I just send the 12v direct to the plate instead? Are they some kind of driver for the led?

Search eBay for EL ( electroluminescent ) tape transformer.

Something like this ...

Tiny Water Resistant 12V Driver / Inverter for 5m EL Wire or 150 squ cm EL Tape | eBay

You can't just put 12v into them , the transformers step the voltage up considerably to power them.
