I'm a very lucky man

A 25 year old in an S Class (the fact its a fantastic car notwithstanding) would look like a chauffeur. :)

14 mpg in an S Class diseasel is going some! I thought the 27 mpg I did in a two litre diesel A Class courtesy car was impressive.

Turbo diesels are not very economical if you drive them hard.

Enjoy the car JC180. :)

TAs regards the S Class, though it is a nice car, I would look a bit of a to$$er driving one at 25, even most of the E's around here are driven by the pipe and slippers brigade (sorry)

Ahem! I have been driving an s-class since my late 20s, are you calling me a to$$er?

Oh, and I'm not into pipes or slippers either .

As regards MPG, I have done 35miles in it today at 14mpg:eek::eek: not very diesel like I know but I have been giving it an Italian tune up:p;)

I think people driving like nutters qualify as to$$ers  :D.

I have been giving this a lot of thought and the only way I can see a 320CDI returning this type of figure is when in low gear going up hill and am looking forward to hearing how this can be acheived on a decent distance.

Mactech is someone who I hold in the highest regard and respect his opinions, especially on this topic = S-class with a 320CDI.

Our E-Class has the older in-line less economical 3.2ltr engine and around Torquay we still get around 28mpg and this area can quite safely be described as 'hilly' :)

John the curious

Edit
In another life I drove a 3.5ltr petrol Range Rover from Tewkesbury to Torquay and averaged 8mpg but the pedal was to the metal, and the heel to the steel  :)

Ah yes, but I was replying to our young friend with prejudices against us old farts driving e- and s-classes  :D.

Well, you will drive these big barges - some say it would be making up for other, ahem, shortfalls, but such is the rich tapestry of life.

Never had any complaints from my better half  :D

Is this thread sufficiently off topic yet

Not sure if it's enough OT yet, but it certainly is becoming unsuitable for the under-18s!

Ok easy all tigers please.

I do drive very sensibly, it's just there is a little lag, and when the turbo kicks in on a curve it can do things to the tail. I am used to a C, as this is far heavier car it cannot carry the same speeds as a C, thats all. I am a sensible family man with 2 kids, not a spotty teenager in a Nova GSI:rolleyes:

Now for the 14mpg, very short trips around town cause this, getting 18mpg today too.

Thanks for all the NICE comments, I should probably have this for at lease another week as they say my car needs a new ECU:eek: which is a factory order taking at least 7 days:crazy::D

As regards build quality, I am getting less impressed by the day, today there is a nasty squeak from the seat, a couple of thumps on the dash sorted out the rattle (I think) Not really good enough.

What I meant is that quality of materials (as opposed to build) is excellent with only the key showing significant wear:p

Overall not what I expect from a £56K car.

I don't like them that much, but I did get overexcited at an AMG S 65 I saw only a few weeks ago.

Love the interior though, really really smart :bannana:
