I'm new here & I need advice on a CLK 500 please!

Oh, I hear you. I don't have "protection" as you call it. haven't needed it, yet!

Sure there are some drawbacks living in deepest darkest Africa but there are also benefits like having the best climate in the world, wide open spaces and waking up to a garden like this every morning:

and a view on the farm like this on weekends:

Apologies, I suppose it depends if you are black or white. If you are white and own a farm then you are basically shagged. Mugabe has already seized the land of 4,000 white farmers. :)

Hi Guys!

Maybe just a little background. I'm white and I'm in Pretoria which is the capitol of South Africa, some 50km south-east of Johannesburg. I'm very happy to live here and have done so all my life. I own a successful business which employs about 300 people.

Mugabe, is the dictator ruling Zimbabwe, our neighbour to the east. Here's some info on SA and it's economy if anyone's interested!;) (needs to updated though!)

Hi, I'm also new to the Merc scene.

Bought my wife a 2004 ML500 about 18 months ago. Liked it, but not as much as the X5 I changed from, so under some pressure, the inevtable happened.

So, just a few days ago I bought a 2003 CLK 500 Elegance in Green Black (black) metalic, black leather, 18" AMG's, full Comand, Phone prep, Sun protection Glass, Bose, the list goes on...

I've had loads of Beemers, so the CLK is taking some getting used to. Although it feels a little more remote to drive than the previous (540i) but it is more involving when pushed, and it does feel 'special' to drive it. I am still unsure about the perameter steering, but the 5 litre engine is dreamy and sounds absolutely fab.

Thanks to the guy who wrote the earlier post on dropping the rear windows for sound effects :)

So, very new to the CLK - would appreciate any views on it / things I should know from other owners

Cheers..

Welcome to CLK ownership! As I've only had mine for about 600km I can't tell you much yet either! :)

I've done one longish trip and was surprised at the fuel economy. Much better than what I anticipated. She returned 9.2l/100km or about 25.5mpg!

Only thing bugging me so far is the safety belt that very uncomfortable over my shoulder. I'm 1.89m tall and I've lowered the seat as much as possible but it still irritates me!
