What about the Carbon fibre boat and the huge amount of Energy used to create it?
What about the backup Diesel generator on board?
What about the 4x support staff who had to be flown over in advance and returned?

    HOW DARE YOU.

Shes a Time Traveller anyway :D

    No not specifically,
but any dry suit would need coating/s to keep it so.

As a racing yacht it isn't likely to have anti foul (unfriendly to marine life), but it might be reasonable to consider the sail material, mast material, and it's difficult to image the internals would be all recyclable.

Isn't this publicity stunt just similar to the other stunts that require a carbon cost to perform. All the activists getting to a venue being an obvious one.

Till over population is recognisd as the root cause of our destruction of the planet I can't get on board with all the penalty initiatives that are fashionable.

    Legally they can,
but I don't share that thinking as a moral strategy for the future.

In the short term (15 years or so) it might reduce our number of criminals though.

Then again her dry suit and boat has less carbon fibre/back up electrics & environmental impact than a Boeing 787 :)

Too many people focusing on her individual efforts & travel whilst ignoring the huge problem facing us all if we do completely ignore what we are doing to the planet.

    - and at some stage that will probably (or maybe should) include how many kids they have - who needs 22 kids ffs:wallbash:

I think the construction of her clothing, the costs of her boat, the incidental air flights etc are all irrelevant.

Why does a 16 year old schoolgirl who offers no solutions need to be at the meeting anyway?

    Solutions?

We can't agree on the problem yet, it's a bit early for solutions.

I read that even if the UK were to go to zero carbon emissions, that would represent a drop of 0.4% in the total global carbon output.

Pointless unless China, India and the USA in particular join in the crusade.

And what's in it for them to do so, when they can economically out-perform a carbon-neutral UK?

Anyway, isn't C02 a plant food which results in the greening effect?

And apparently the sun is about to enter one of its cooler cycles.

Weren't there higher temperatures reported/recorded in the 15th century?

    Global warming? Bah, humbug.

Not much I suppose. Maybe save Bangladesh from drowning.....

And reduce the inevitable flow of migrants that gets the west in such a lather.

I was amused to read that the potato-faced brat's full name is Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg. How did her parents know the torn-faced world-saver would grow to resemble the Belgian hero?

@del320 hopefully you are “David Gandy” good looking, and from your lofty beautiful perch, feel qualified and entitled to ridicule a child who has probably done more to highlight a global issue in a year, than you and all of your family, in the past 50 years  bravo.

In any normal society, what her parents are doing to the "wunderkind" would be classed as child cruelty.
