If I was considering moving from the C Class coupe to a CLK - what are the main differences I will find.

I know I can look up the technical data (the C270cdi catches my fancy unless the C200K are a lot cheaper) but if I was having to sell the idea to someone all help would be appreciated.

This is sitting in Auto trader and caught my eye
Auto Trader UK - MERCEDES-BENZ CLK 270 CDi Avantgarde Auto (not that I was looking of course..)
and got me thinking about the next car and a few quid coming my way shortly...

God knows how little I would get for mine now, but that's a nice looker - but is the price right?

Done a search on the 270 and a few issues show up, but overall its a sound engine ?

And the extra 'bit' of space would be worthwhile having?
And the ride would be different/better?

And sales pitches great fully received

Having not driven either I've no idea, but that CLK looks quite nice, like the fact it has a roof. Windows and roof back almost a convertible.

I'm guessing the ride would be similar although the 18" alloys and that particular model will be harder than normal.

Extra space only useful if you need it.

Don't take this the wrong way but I see the C coupe more Wife / girlfried car whereas the CLK more grown up type? hope that makes sence without sounding stupid...

I got a CLK270 back in September.

I have to say I am very well pleased with it. I sort of wish I had waited for one with a sunroof to come along but I did insist on waiting for (heated) memory seats - especially useful if 2 people share the car.

The engine is not the smoothest when cold or at idle but OK when over 20mph and economy around town is only 32 but on the m-way I get 45-50.

The boot is impressive with the amount of stuff you can get in it.

I got one with the AMG kit and it does look good but I did manage to rip the front spoiler off on a low kerb.

I really like this car and can see me keeping it for many years

A little roughnes in the engine I can handle (I have a 220!) I little more go would be nice and the 270 looks to fit the bill without emptying the wallet

There don't seem to me as many petrol ones round (sensible, not 320 plus) and certainly not at a notable saving to the diesel

I have always preferred cars with as much glass as possible (hence the Pano roof on the Coupe) - must be automotavily claustrophobic (ish)

Has a Pano roof ever been an option on 05 / 55 reg CLK's?

The Coupe is a stepping stone into Mercs for many (me) but I actually prefer it over the saloon unless the saloon has AMG kit on it - I don't like the CLC (it might grow....) - and getting just a younger version of mine isn't doing it for me. With a Zafira (with glass roof) on the drive, I don't need a big car / estate.

I am of course not looking, but has anybody made the move from Coupe to CLK and how have they found it?
