Whilst I love the way the 3/5/6/7 series drive and handle, some of the x series are duffers:

335d. The only BMW I like in my budget. Never liked the E60 and although the 7 is in my price range, its too big and too slow for the diesel and with 30k miles/yr I need a diesel. X5 and X6 are too large to be practical and a Range Rover just more compelling at that price range

The X6 is almost as hideous as the Audi Q7, and as Clarkson showed, hopeless off road. Probably the most pointless waste of space in existence.

My dentist has an X6. It even makes his teeth rattle. He hates it with a passion.

5 series GT is just ugly. Can't see what posessed them to make it, or anyone to buy it.

I don't have an issue with the other cars, although not keen on BMW sporrts suspension.

Steve mentiond E65 730d. Had one of these. nice car, but felt a bit 'wooden' over time. Still do not miss it very much, other than it was v. quiet on motorway.

Was surprised how much less leg room the 5 had at the back compared to the e class....

I thought the ML was bad in that horrible brown colour but the X1 I mentioned in the first post has it licked in the ugly, why the hell buy a motor in that colour stakes !

This is a strange thread for me because I saw an X1 today and was thinking these same sentiments.
The only BMW I could buy that looks don't offend me would be the X5.
Is it the same person that has designed this new generation of BMWs?

The X5 series is the only off roader BMW needed to make.

Everything else is a total compromise on the original idea and fails because of that.

The X1s are awful, so cheaply and poorly made. The E90 3 series and F10 5 series I do like somewhat though. There is a lot of anti BMW MB is best of all on this forum, but it cannot detract that they can indeed make a good car.

A used X5 makes so much so sense

Cue...

Except that BMW know that hardly any X5 ever puts so much as an inch of tread off the black stuff - ever.

If they'd kept the RR then it would have been the off road vehicle while the X5 could have been developed further as the pretty boy pseudo off-roader with no need for the X6 (or X3).

My 03 reg RR was a stunningly complete car - comfortable, refined, build quality and reliability perfect, superb off road as well as on. V8 engine was a joy, but for one thing - to get close to 18 mpg I had to drive like an undertaker. Put the foot down moderately and 12mpg was the default. Parking in London was also tough and it was a magnet for keying, the day I was having it valued for a sale someone keyed the entire length. I'd have the new V8 diesel in a shot though, although it is a bit too bling now.

I'd rather have a V10 Tourag .........

Wait till you drive a Range Rover, tad gutless in 3litre TD form but in V8 one effortless enough. Tested one and being so high up and upright and comfy, an experience I will never forget.

The seating, cabin ambience and go anywhere ability of it do put them in a class of their own.

Just do not drive it quickly, they are not built for that.

I've got a mate with an Overfinch one for sale Steve ;)

£13k , 03 plate , goes like the proverbial ...

Would do you a treat .

Steve

I have probably driven more RRs than you have. Drive them hard and they are scary. Very scary.

Parked up they are nice.

Internal ambience ? I'll have my S Class. Comfort and handling :)

That would be a proper way to account for every penny I have. The "shed" costs me about £60/week in fuel, this bad boy a mere £200 I would guess.

Don't tempt me, I would love to own a Rangie, just the savage costs hold me back.
