Images Question

It seems to me that some images on my PC, when enlarged, go pixellated, whilst some don't.

Is this down to the type of image file (and if so which ones give the 'smoothest' edges) or is it down to the original size of the image?

Or is it something else...

It will be down to the size (resolution) of the images. If you look at the details, the ones that look good will be much larger files.
