Hi All,

I am looking to purchase a C350 AMG Sport Coupe. Just after any advice on any know issues or what to look out for. Has anyone had one as their quite a rarish beast. Only want a black one so that makes it a little bit harder.

Missed one a couple of weeks back. After a test drive at the dealers, sitting in the office trying to work out the deal, the salesman called the boss to get the deal approved and was told it was sold the night before over the phone. Also missed one on the weekend due to me being in Northumberland and the car was in Norfolk so could not get there fast enough.

Specs see all pretty much the same, is this correct. The one I missed had the same wheels as the C63. Were these an option as have not seen another with these alloys and these, I do like over all the others. Happy to wait for the right car. Have a budget of 12k. Do not want to go above this most cars seem between 9k to 11k. Is this a good price for one.

Last question can they really do over 40mpg, not that really matters as I have a company fuel card.

Thanks for reading.

C350.... CDI or CGI?

I have the same engine in the SLK - 40mpg might be pushing it but i can get an easy 35-38mpg with a long term aveage of 32mpg with a proportion of town driving.

Assuming you are looking at post 2011 models...

They are indeed rare beasts. I have had the saloon version from new in 2012, in Magnetite Black. There was a big range of optional extras, most of which are down to personal choice/need as to how important they are. Quite a few wheel options.

Can it do over 40mpg? If driving like Miss Daisy on a motorway, then yes - easily. But use all of those 306 horses and you’ll be a lot nearer 30 on an A road run.

The only issue I’ve encountered was failed NOx sensors. This is a known issue by Mercedes and they replaced mine at 7 years old virtually free (normally around £1200!)

Good luck in your hunt.

Some good ones on Autotrader with reasonable mileage.

I have seen them all. Not in Person, two black ones on there at the moment but both are circa 100k miles looking between 50 to 80k max. Has to be black.

I do quite a few miles and on avergae keep my cars for at least five years. (If I like them) my current car an Alpina D3 now has 240k.

I was looking for a W204 C350 petrol amg spec (sport) saloon for ages and eventually gave up....super rare. Now I am looking for a C43 instead.

When I was looking for one, my indie did mention an engine issue with this engine that causes the engine management light to come up which is expensive to put right....cant' remember if it was balancer shaft or timing chain issue but he did tell me to ask any owners if the issue had been sorted.

I think it was sorted on the later models....I can't remember the exact issue.

I do quite like the look of the C63 coupe but getting a bit old for the full fat model. Also too many speed restrictions and cameras to enjoy it and dont think I could live with the nosie or the running and service costs in the long term. Its for a younger man.

It’s the NOx sensors that bring up the EML. At £1200 they’re expensive, and they’re not just on the C350. I haven’t heard of any balancer shaft problems on the M276 engine and the only timing chain issue is a slight rattle on startup from cold on the earliest models that doesn’t lead to any mechanical problems. Mine’s 8 years old and still going strong with nothing having been done to the engine throughout its life.

So nothing really to worry about if the service history is up to date. just finding them is the hard part.

I have that engine in an E class coupe.
There are a few of them about on AT (even with the M276 engine you are chasing)

Perhaps look at one as well?

If you have a fuel card get a 500. You could probably get 35 mpg at a push but that's not the point. The 5.5 is a great engine and you can waft about most the time. I suspect there are more to choose from too.

Thanks for the tought. Not a fan of the E Coupe cant really say why as its not offensive but just not for me.

Sorry thought you were after one of them. Which is actually based on the C Class so gets confusing.

Yes the C207 is based on the W204 but the OP might not want a 2-door 4-seater.....?

I also do a lot of city centre parking so the smaller the better. Can be a pain with the bigger cars. We have an Ml and thats a bugger to park in towns.
