98 CLK 230K
I Have just purchased a 98 230k CLK

but it has no radio/cd player

My Q is which of the MB systems is a straight plug and play for my car

Thanks in advance

Jim

If you get the Audio 10 (basic head unit) try to get one with the CD in the head unit.

If you buy one with the tape in the head unit you should check the CD changer is working correctly. If it doesn't work properly it will cost a lot to replace, in which case the best route is an aftermarket unit.

Unless you REALLY want a factory option head unit then surely it is better to get an aftermarket unit. There are so many facilities now eg USB / Bluetooth / and so on the functionality is way past anything offered by MB at the time. I have a Kenwood head unit with a touchscreen. It has satnav by garmin compatible unit for the whole of europe and russia. It reads mp3 dvd's (4.6gb of music - so no cd magazine required). Newer versions have bluetooth which allows hands free calling. Screen is flip up hide away type. Plays dvds (satnav is separate so dvd not used by satnav disc) . Could install digital tv if I wanted...I think i've made the point. Over to you.

Especially as 98 CLK does not have steering wheel controls or the additional display in the cluster and has standard ISO connectors so you're not 'losing' that functionality ...

I can't remember whether the audio slot on 98 CLK is single DIN or whether it has a pop out compartment to make it double din.

I'd look at the Becker units as they look very OEM (since they made things like the Audio-30-APS which still loooks like the Becker Grand Prix

Its easy connection to get anyaftermarket radio unit with ISO connection. I would suggest get a nice unit with more power and more features. I had Pionnier in mine and costed me £150 with BT and all other benefits.

any photos..?
