Went down to see SIL today, and she has just swapped her GLC for an ‘AMG’ spec S206
It’s a lovely lovely thing. Looks fantastic and the interior is a special place to be.
I’ve not been a great fan of the c-class since the w202 - the w203 was forgettable, the w204 was ugly and the w205 was bland (apologies for upsetting anyone)
This is a great looking car. You have to see it in the metal but imho it really stands out.
The interior is a great place to be and the infotainment and dash just go to confirm what I’ve said for some time. Mercedes do the best UI It looks great and is straightforward to navigate. Love the different dashboards especially the equivalent of the Audi virtual cockpit.
The silver carbon fibre effect really stands out. It’s great. Thank goodness we seem to have moved on from the so called piano black. It’s even better than the black ash.
Build quality seems to be good too and hopefully should hold up to her abuse. We’ll see what it looks like in three years time.
The load area is a good size - I really liked the led illumination strips. Little things I know but they are the things that help to give a feel good factor.
Which brings me to the ambient lighting.
I’m not a great fan of ambient lighting, but this is really subtle (or not if you want the ‘effects’ and really enhances the special feel of the car.
I didn’t get a drive but she says that this is far and away the easiest and smoothest car to drive she has ever had, she’s also mightily impressed with the fuel consumption (it’s a 220d)
Bad points?
The AMG wheels. They are horrible. I’ve liked pretty much all of the AMG wheels - right from the monoblocks - they always give a special look to the car but these are just plain nasty.
The pleather/artico just looks like plastic to me, and has done for some time. With the dark interior, it makes the interior at the rear very gloomy.
And at 43 big ones there aren’t many toys. The implementation of what it does have is fantastic, but I was expecting VR satnav, adaptive headlights and maybe a good stereo. It’s far from basic, but still feels as if MB have scrimped on the spec.
So all in all, an absolutely lovely car with great features, well built and great to look at. Just be careful on how you spec it.
Great job MB.
Oh, couple of piccies.
