God knows why, but i am CONSIDERING a W211.

Did W211's that come with 16" Alloys have a different suspension setup to those that came with the 17's?

Or is the Avantgarde suspension setup the same across the whole W211 range?

Please advise.

As far as I'm aware it's the same across the board - maybe different spring pads but the springs themselves seem to be the same, certainly from a driving perspective.

The Avantgarde have the same setup across the board irrespective of wheel size.

The above is right in practise. But going to very details, there are three (if I remember right, it was three) different spring options for an Avantgarde and the selection depends on the additional options the car has. MB assigns "points" for each option, the sum for the car determines the one from the three. This is to take into account the weight of the car with the options.

The springs are to do with engine size and weight and I think there are only 2 options. The ride height is then adjusted with the various spring pads.

I can work this out if you have model designations/VIN numbers.

Sport models have 18" wheels and stiffer springs.

I'm in the market for an E320 Cdi (Another)..

Yep, got that. Good luck.

We await another entertaining thread...:D :D

Have they coughed up and collected the old car yet.?

BTW: You only get the HPI protection guarentee if you have it done directly by you, not a dealer.

Have you looked at the foot note 11 for the front springs and foot note 26 for the rear springs from EPC?

For a 211.022 I can find part number options 211 321 03/04/05 04 parts (the same for 211.026). You are probably right about the spring pads, perhaps you can explain why EPC has the foot note for the springs instead of the pads (I've never worked on a W211 with these)?

I think you may be right, the springs vary depending on the weight of the engine and accessories.
The 320Cdi has a start value of 217 points then add the additonal points on to get he right pads.

Seems an expensive way of achieving this compared to interchangable pads.

There were multiple springs available for the w210 as well as multiple pads.

Testing my memory here which is not necessarily a good thing but IIRC before the Sport model came out there was an option for "sport" suspension on the Avantgarde. I know certain wheels were only available with that option or Airmatic DC. I'm not sure if it was possible to specify sports suspension with the standard Avantgarde 16" wheels.
