Considering a 2 week holiday in Italy, visiting the classic sites. It would be a shame not to make it a motoring holiday particularly with the SLK.
However, 2 weeks & SLK boot don't seem to work together:doh:
Anyone got any recommendations for a boot rack?
I've just come across Boot Bags which seem a good idea.
Comments welcome......................................

That's what I would do, a proper roadster touring holiday.

You can buy that non slip matting by the roll and then use your own luggage...just need to fashion some straps.

With this on the back would you be able to raise/lower the roof with it in situ?

Nice idea but are these bags good from a security point of view ?

Could you not pack a small, flexible selection of clothes and find a laundry ?

Having travelled two up with camping equipment for three weeks, on a motorcycle, I think you should be able to pack everything you really neeed in an SLK boot without the need for anything like this.

Buy some packing cubes from amazon and leave suitcases at home.

You'll be amazed how much you can take.

We managed a two week touring holiday in our old Fiat Barchetta, with a large wheeled holdall squashed into the boot. T shirts and jeans, obviously, but it worked. The hood in the B folded down behind the seats though, so the boot was shorter but deeper than the SLK. Did Mercedes ever make specific luggage for the SLK?

It was a great holiday though, 2800 miles in 12 days, took the B back to its birthplace in Moncalieri south of Turin. With the added frisson of uncertainty that comes from driving a 17 year old Italian car with no breakdown cover.. ;). Have a great time if you go for it..

Cheers,

Gaz

There is some custom fitted luggage for the slk on ebay which would allow you to use every inch of space.

Just wondering... do you know that your spare wheel cover can be reversed to give you more boot space?

You should be able to get more than 200 litres of space with the roof down. That should be ample for two peoples luggage.

I'll have a look at that tomorrow - if that is the case makes you wonder why it isn't like that as standard.

edit - just had a look - reversing the spare wheel cover adds an extra 65mm depth over about 2/3rds of the boot area. SWMBO will be delighted with an extra 2.5 inches

No fixed itinery yet, but would only be staying in one place for a day or two at a time. This might make finding a laundry a bit of a time consuming pain
