I am the proud new owner of a 1983 W123 200t estate, and want to find a good local indie mechanic who can help me look after it. Recommendations welcome! Also new to the forum so be nice. I did look back through 5 pages of this thread to see if there was a previous recommendation.

I use Phil at Welwyn Merx for all the servicing on my R230 SL, he is well recommended.

Fortunately you have a car with "non proprietary" technology. Your car will have a carburetted version of the single overhead cam M102 engine for example so can be worked on by any adaptable classic mechanic familiar with cars of that vintage. May widen your choice a bit?

Thank you that's a good point, Welwyn not too far away but if I can find someone in the local town I can build a relationship a bit more easily.

Hi David, thank you for the tip! I'll get in touch and let him know you sent me :)

Good taste, Sir!
Why not learn to do DIY? You can easily do routine maintenance at home, know you've done it right and save £££s.
The American forums contain the most information on the older models.

Autoclass in Milton Keynes are good for the larger jobs

When "auditioning" Mercedes specialists it might be wise to ask how many W123 models they work on routinely? Not casting aspersions here, its just there's a different skill set applicable to a canbus compared to a carburettor :dk:

I use A1BN in Stevenage. They specialise in BMW & MERCS. I would not trust my car to anyone else. Have been using them for a long time and never had a bad experience.
