Indonesian ring question (picture attached)

A friend of mine bought this ring while in Indonesia.

It supposed to be old, though he is not sure just how old.

Can anyone identify what's written on it (not sure which way is up...)?

Can anyone find some more info regarding the lettering which may point to the era the ring was made?
