For what its worth, here are some photos I've found of my 1996 SL500 (with the hardtop trolley and protective bag). I actually paid £7490 in 2012. These photos were taken in 2015 just before I part-ex'd it with 84,383 miles on the clock .

They do show what you could get for not a lot of money.
