Hello,

Does anyone have firmware file for infotainment for any model? I tried to look on the website and all I could find was update for the SAP module.

I want to get a hold of the actual infotainment firmware for MB.

Thanks.

SHALOM.

That depends on the infotainment system you have.

Typically it will be either Audio20/Audio50, or COMAND Online NTG4/4.5/5.x/6 etc.

On very early systems the latest firmware update was included with the latest maps CD.

On the majority of the systems, the firmware update can only be done via MB STAR Diagnostic Computer connected directly to the MB central computer in Germany, so it's a dealer-only job (or a specialist garage who have said STAR).

On the very latest systems, the firmware update is done automatically on-air using the car's built-in Internet connection.

haha, thank you so much for the awesome reply!

I actually need the actual firmware file for the
COMAND ONLINE, what ever is newer. So from what I understand from you is that it’s not possivle to get ahold of this file because only the dealer has it?

Yes.

The firmware update is done while STAR is connected to the MB central computer.

STAR then checks the config of the car on the computer, and downloads the correct firmware, then uploads it to the car.

This is not just for COMAND, by the way. There are quite a few ECUs in the car (e.g. engine, transmission, etc), and the firmware on these ECUs is updated in the same way.

The logic behind it is that end-users don't messed-up the ECUs by trying to upload to the car an incorrect firmware.

So STAR checks with the MB central computer what infotainment system the car has (based on the car's VIN), and then ensures that only a firnware version that it suitable for the car can be installed.

What you can do as an end-user is download and install the latest maps for COMAND, but not the firmware itself.

The maps file is a free download from MB, but when you try and install the maps, you'll need to use a PIN (which is unique to your car's VIN), and this PIN needs to be purchased from a dealer.

These files are Mercedes copyright. Latterly they are downloaded and installed at the point of update. We have them all stored locally on the official MB server we bought from Mercedes but I’m afraid they are not available no matter how much you offer, sorry.

Another word of advice.... I've seen that you posted the same question on some other Internet forums. Given that you don't even seem to know which version of COMAND your car has (NTG4/4.5/5*X/MBUX etc), I seriously doubt that you have the skills required to hack the system, even if you did somehow manage to get hold of a STAR clone and some sort of pirated copy of the firmware files. I think that you stand a very good chance of bricking your infotainment system. My advice is: leave it to the professionals, who will do this properly and legally. Otherwise, you will likely end-up with a dead infotainment system.
