2017 W213 E220d AMG Line
Hi all, new to MB, I can't for the life of me figure out exactly what system I have in my car. If it helps, 2016 E220d, registered 2017 though, AMG line, no touch pad just turn wheel. Two USB ports in storage between the front seats and an sd port with card in for navi. Trying to find out if I have or can have android auto and if there's anyway to. Update the system as it's extremely slow and laggy. Any help would be massively appreciated

have you got a picture of the interior?

I'm guessing you have a w212 model. to be honest doesn't matter what model you have you will be able to get apple CarPlay / android auto but its via adding a module. if its the newer E Class I think you can code in apple CarPlay but don't quote me on that

Cheers, its the W213 model, just have no idea what the radio/system is. I've noticed that the only two USB ports do not have the phone and screen symbol so I'm guessing, unless there's another USB port somewhere it does not have android auto enabled

When you start the car, does the Infotainment system say: "Do not let the SYSTEM distract you..."? If so then you have Audio20.

On the other hand, if the Infotainment system says "Do not let COMAND distract you..." then you have COMAND Online. The W212 had COMAND Online NTG4.5 up to 2015, and on its last year of production (2016) this was replaced with COMAND Online NTG5*1, which is what your car will likely have.

Either way, contact [email protected], with your VIN, they will advise if Apple CarPlay / Android Auto can be activated or retrofitted.

EDIT: If your car is an early W213, then the Infotainment system is likely COMAND Online NTG5.5.

and if it is a NTG5.5 he will need this module to add the features of Apple CarPlay / Android Auto

He might need either:

Or:

Either way, [email protected] will know what's the right solution based on the car's VIN.

Hi
Why is the box needed?
If the O/P has NTG5 then its no more than a replacement USB Hub approx £75 and a re-flash of the Comand Software, that all that mine needed to have both AA and AC activated.

NTG5*1, NTG5*2, and NTG5.5 are all different systems and the Apple CarPlay / Android Auto solution differs.

Also, the USB Hub change requires SCN Coding and activation online, and my understanding is that MB do not permit activation for all models/scenarios, depending on their policy.

And last, it's not yet clear if the OP has Audio20 or COMAND.

Cheers Markjay, comes up 'SYSTEM' so it must be audio20? If that's the case I don't have the NTG system?

As mentioned above, contact comand.co.uk (forum sponsors) with your VIN, they will then be able to look up the build sheet for your car and see exactly what it left the factory with. As they are ICE specialists, especially where MB cars are involved, if you tell them what you want to achieve they will be able to tell you what you can and can't do, what you need to achieve it, quite possibly supply the required bits and if you're within range of J3 M3 even fit the bits for you! They're almost 2 hours drive from me, but they sorted out the satnav on my SLK and also the Comand small HDD on my S204 as well as supplying and fitting front parking sensors and reversing camera to my NTG4 car. The double trip from here to them was really worthwhile (had to leave the S204 with them for a couple of days for the work to be done).

Correct, you have Audio20 (not COMAND), which confusingly also uses the NTG nomenclature... so your system is likely 'Audio20 NTG5.5'.

And, your navigation system will probably be Garmin Map Pilot, installed on an SD-Card.

Its most likely to be Audio-20-NAV NTG5*2 given the year and the fact nav is on SD card. There is no native support for AA or CarPlay in that head unit and you need an aftermarket "insert" box added that is hidden away but sits between display and COMAND and does AA/CarPlay for you. This issue with these boxes is that you have to select AUX to hear the sound, and thus you can't listen to DAB/FM/AM and use Carplay/AA as if you get a call you can't here it.
We install an excellent UK designed / specified / software-developed system into these - talk to [email protected]
Cheers
Richard

ps, later in life they switched to Audio-20 NTG5.5 and that can have CarPlay/Android-Auto on it with appropriate licencing and software etc. The non SD nav (COMAND) in W213 can also support AA/CP natively.

Thanks Richard,

So bloody confusing all this, it is typical however of my luck that I end up buying the early w213!

I only plan on keeping the car for 2 years but I will email and enquire about the software.

Again, thank you all for your help and advice

Paul
