Hi all, just discovered the injector leak while i was adding windscreen fluid, i could see a small oil like stain on the plastic engine cover, so i took it off, only to discover the first injector leaking....oooh the joys of life!!!!
With the cover off i could smell the gases, but not from inside the car...maybe using ac and having a new cabin filter played a part in it. It looks like i caught it early, but i don't have much experience with the issue.
Where to start..., from what i understand it should be taken care of asap, and not postponed. What do you think...should i take it to a specialist, can you recommend one near witney or oxford? Should i buy the tools and attempt it myself? I am a bit confused as to what i should do....maybe it's the fumes... ☺
I placed an youtube video

thank you!

I just bought the tools myself as if you are that way inclined then it is not that difficult, buy a seat cutting tool about £25, a good high temp grease for when you put the injector back in, get 2 new stretch bolts from mercedes or online and my advice is don't get the mercedes copper washers but instead get the honda washers as they are slightly thicker and are better quality and deform better to create a better seal, my experience is merc washers are crap as I have had my seals done 3 times, but many people will say the merc ones are good this is just my personal experience, alot of people have opted for the honda ones due to the merc ones failing shortly after changing

It looks to be in the early stages of black death, given that you have caught it early enough it may be an easy one to do. The big one is dragging the injector out, the rest is down to care and attention when you build it up again. The hole and thread for the clamp bolt need to be looked at and make sure there is no gunge in the bolt hole, new bolt and Honda copper washers plus the MB injector grease.

Losta threads found by search (both UK and US forums). Easy DIY IF injector is not stuck (your does not look bad) and bolt won't snap. Sometimes heard the bolt may snap also when removing old...

I cannot emphasize how important (or how much easier job) is that engine is hot when you start removing injector!

To be honest i would enjoy nothing more than to be able to do it myself... but it is something i have never done on cdi engines , only on older diesels (removing , not cutting a new seat)...so i am bit scared not to do more damage than good...i don t have a solution for removing the debries resulted in the cutting of the seat...i am afraid not to drop anything in the chamber...plus i don t have the tools...waiting another week to get the tools and using the car daily for 100 miles, do you consider that it would that be a problem ?
Thank you.

I think 100 won't make a big difference, hope so...

Cutting the seat is not always needed, I think in case like yours surface is still in good shape (I have done 2 of mine, not refined either surfaces). I just used solvent and rough rag to cleaning surfaces. Also fine grinding paper do tougher stains.

Preventing debris going to cylinder I have heard two solutions: You can remove glow plug and put air gun in glow plug hole and fix gun blowing air constantly to the cylinder. Or you can buy some foam like? (Never seen them in alive) fillers in the nozzle hole. I think MB sells some cleaner tools which includes such things...?

Personally I would buy genuine MB grease for injectors body, I have posted part number around...

Hi, thanks for the answer, can you tell me what solvent you have used?

How much does it cost roughly to get injectors sealed at an Indy, hours and parts.

2011 viano has a smell of fumes while driving. The garage thought it was the engine cover melting onto the top of the engine. There's no blow in the exhaust that I can hear or see. So I've asked them to check the injectors. After they've replace a stubborn sump at £580. Inc labour

depends how many injectors need done, I done 2 of mine on the driveway and less than 1 and a half hours, I would recommend getting the washers and stretch bolts yourself and giving to the indy to do so all they will charge is labour, I would say 50-60 quid if it is just 1 should cover it as it isn't difficult

Cheers Mickybo.

I've see that Honda washers are mentioned above, are these a standard size washer or specific to the w639 3.0 cdi injectors. So in other words, do I just search for Honda injector seals and one size fits all.

New to this so please bare with me.
