Injector reliability

I have read a lot about the damage that occurs if the injectors get stuck open with the 4.0 V8 engines and wanted to know what owners do for maintenance. I have read some owners change the injectors after X amount of years but this is a very expensive preventative maintenance task.

I have a 2018 GT C (557hp) 190 engine which has done 4200 miles with one owner up to last month when I bought it. I understand carbon build up can make them stick open but I also wanted to find out if they deteriorate through age and have any parts like seals that can cause an issue. I have consider having them removed for cleaning and flow testing which is £1300 for peace of mind. I have checked Bosch and found the correct injector is 'Petrol Fuel Injector 0261500804 Bosch'. I have also asked Bosch if they can confirm if they are the same injector as supplied to MB using the MB part number. If they are the same they are 1/3 of the price compared to the dealers. To have 8 new injectors fitted and have them testing before fitting would be approximately £2300. Sound mad testing new injectors but for £20 each its a small price considering I know someone who fitted new injectors on an Audi with one being faulty and caused an engine rebuild.

I searched really hard to find a car which such low mileage and it even had the original tyres with 4-5mm of tread left. I am keen to make it as reliable and would like a bit of guidance to whether the above is pointless or a worthwhile bit of maintenance.

Well the saga goes on and before I had the chance to go ahead with anything my engine management light on. I took it to the MB specialist who serviced it a couple weeks before they say it was either the spark plug or coil pack, so I had them replace both.
Car seemed fine until the next week I accelerated past 5k revs and the light came back on.
It went back to the garage and the same miss fire on cylinder 8 was a over injector that caused the new spark plug to go black in 50 miles. Luckily a compression showed no issues so I opted to have all new injectors and spark plugs, especially after researching and finding the injectors were superseded with a newer version due to faults.
Hopefully tomorrow after they complete an extended road test I’ll get it back and running like new.

oh wow , sorry to hear about the injector issues, at least it was identified and rectified quickly

I think with the expense of rebuilding these engines in the event of a failure makes it really important to do excessive maintenance and I will feel safer knowing I have all new injectors moving forward. At least I managed to buy the same Bosch injectors at £100 each from Parts in Motion, compared to MB charging £360 + vat.

That's good to know the Bosh injectors are a match!

MB buy Bosch injectors with their own part numbers on them. I had it confirmed from Bosch UK that the GT, GTS, GTC and GTR for 2018 all share the same injector. The also stated part number 0261500804 is the same injector, which was confirmed by my local independent MB specialist.
