Injector sealing ring replacement

A previous thread made note of some dried blank gunk around the injectors and it was identified as soundproofing that had melted due to injector sealing rings failing.

Well, I've got the same stuff around one of my injectors so I want to replace the sealing rings.

Can any one tell me if this is a job for the amateur mechanic and if so what do I need to do it.

Presumably a set of copper sealing rings(at least!) but are there any other seals that should be replaced at the same time eg from the fuel feed to the injector, and is there anything to watch out for.

I'm hoping I just undo everything, replace the rings and screw it back together again. I'm assuming the injectors are OK as the car runs fine and there is no black smoke (or indeed any smoke)

Car is a W210 300TD

Thanks

Nick

It would be worth renewing the bleed-off pipes that run between each injector, but thats about it really.

make sure you change all the injector copper washers one each injector and the fuel return pipe diy yes but you will need time the black stuff is a pain and time consuming send a letter to mbz more letters may make them admit a problem i was told never happens umm why new o rings made from different componds which are fuel resistant

The injector sealing rings aren't really a problem on your engine because the injectors are screwed in whereas on the CDi they are just clamped in place.

I'd be suprised if your injectors are leaking compression at all.
As Jimmy ahs said your leak off pipes are probably leaking.
