Did I talk too soon about going back to the garage?

I now have a problem with the inlet manifold.

I have no power at all

There is a little arm off the motor that controls the gates on the manifold.
this has parted company and the garage are telling me it's a new manifold.

Can this be true?

Can it be fixed?

Boy I need help

Steve

If its the same set up as the 270 Cdi engine then its likely to be new manifold time....quite a common problem...the swirl flaps in the manifold can also part company, but unlike BMW's which suffer from this badly, they don't appear to do any damage, whereas they quite often wreck the BMW's engine when they get sucked into the combustion chamber.

From memory the inlet manifold for the 270 is about £400 + the fitting.

I can't figure out why they would put a flimsy plastic arm on the joint.
I would have thought they would make the manifold serviceable.

Unless anybody has any good fixing ideas I will be on the lookout for a E220 CDI 2002 W210 inlet manifold.

Anybody want to buy a slow car?

Steve

I have looked on Ebay and there are a few manifolds on there.
Can any of the more enlightened members have a look and tell me if any would fit?

Many thanks

Steve

Be very careful of second hand inlet manifolds...a number of them are sold with exactly the same problem that you have with yours. We purchased one from Dronsfields and it was worse than the one we took off...clearly wasn't checked before being sent out.

Personally I would go down the new route.

has it definitely broken off at the manifold or has the arm come off the stepper motor?

Edit: I've not read the full thread. Didn't realise it was a garage who gave you the diagnosis

Having done this job a few times I concur with Vlad. I seem to remember a new one costing in the region of £290 plus the dreaded

Is your car is a W210 or a W211?

Many thanks for all the help but I think I have it sorted.
I will let you know the outcome but in the new year.

Thanks again

Steve
