Inspraytion Again :)

As some of you know I am a bit fussy about my car so it was inevitable that I'd end up getting my wheels refurbed. Those who remember my W203 will know that Inspraytion Rochester powder coated my AMG IVs but today I went for a repaint as the damage was minor. The guys were busy at their new premises but nevertheless they got on with my wheels quickly. At £35 a wheel and given that they also finished in only 1 1/2 hours, I can't complain I'm a happy chap. Below some photos of the "appalling" state of my wheels before and nice shiny ones after! (sorry just phone photos today!)

I'm about to go one step further by taking my car (the 968, not the S204!) to Rimtec in Meopham for a full tyres off refurb - strip, bead blast, powder undercoat, paint and lacquer, tyres back on and balanced - OK, I have to leave the car with him for 3-4 days, but £230 including "parking charge" and VAT is a pretty good price for that!

Amusing seeing your wheels - they're identical to those on my S204 elegance, except mine aren't kerbed!! (touches wood rapidly!!) and are 16's, whereas I suspect yours are 17's. I know I curse cleaning them - far too many spokes!

LOL, yes they are quite spokey aren't they! Yes mine are 17s as you said. Your quote sounds about what Inspraytion charge. Ie. Half Lepson's :)

Inspraytion did both sets of my wheels a while ago. Great service and nice guys too IMHO.

How durable is this spray refurb?

How durable is this spray refurb?

It's how most wheels come from the factory. Most alloys are painted and lacquered. Only special finished are power coated or polished (all IMHO!)

I thought all were powder coated and lacquered and only the budget refurbers just painted them ?

BJV certainly powder coat and lacquer their refurbs ( After dipping or blasting ) and only paint them if you want them colour coded.

IIRC the man with a van refurbers only paint them because they don't have the facilities in the van to dip/blast and electro powder coat ?

Mike Walker and I have used Inspraytion for both types of finish. Neither will resist kerbing! I had loads of wheels painted with no problems at all. If a wheel has one little kerb mark then does it need to be acid dipped, shot blasted, powder coated and baked or is that a needless amount of "wear" on the wheel. Personally if, like my wheel it only needed a little cosmetic work, then I'd rather avoid the wear and the expense. If, however, you have corrosion then you are better to go the whole hog and powder coat.

I'm aware of that Greg. :)

I only ever have mine done at BJV and they only ever dip , powder coat , diamond cut and lacquer them for me.

Glad you are pleased with your results

I would think for minor blemishes a spray refurb would be fine but having seen some wheels that have had a "blow-over" I was wondering how long before the finish starts to peel off?
Guess it depends on the prep. How do they prep the wheel for a spray refurb?

I know that at Inspraytion, they don't do mobile work because they still want to be able to mask properly and have the wheel in a proper lit spray booth and then they don't bake them but they use heat in a bay to help the drying process. If you have a wheel painted on a car , upright, in the open air, then I guess gravity and wind will make doing a good job pretty hard. I have had wheels done on the car before though and they still lasted OK.
