Installation of Android Auto/Apple Carplay with COMAND NTG4.0

These devices take their power from the multiplug that feeds power to the head unit. A socket accepts the original multiplug, and a new multiplug on the other end of a short breakout harness then plugs into the head unit. So there's no need to tap into a separate fuse.
Thanks, so any idea as to where i put the ACC and BAT terminals then? (My car is in my bio) TIA👍

The W204 pre-facelift (up to 2010) had NTG4.

The W204 facelift (2010 onwards) had NTG4.5.

These are two very different systems and they are not interchangeable.

Check with the vendor of they have a solution for W204 with NTG4.5.
Yes, it is NTG4.5. Thanks

Do you happen to know the size of the NTG4.5 screen on a facelift W204? I know on some screens you measure diagonally

COMAND is 7.2"

Audio20 is 5.8"
Ignore me - think I am having a senior moment......

Thanks

Not doubting you, but that sounds the wrong way round? The options given in above pic are 5.8 and 7.2 - my NTG4.5 is certainly COMAND surely?

As of NTG4.5... they are all called 'NTGxx'.

So you have COMAND Online NTG4.5.

And you have Audio20 NTG4.5.

Aggggh - my brain hurts now! So what size is the screen I have then! 🤯

When I fitted a similar unit into my 2010 S212 (NTG4) I tried all these DIP switch settings in turn, but couldn't get the display to work. I found out you have to completely kill the power to the unit for the new DIP switch setting to take effect. The best way to do this is to pull out the plug carrying the power. The seller advised to leave it for one minute before plugging it back in, but I don' think it needed that long.

I also discovered that my Audio AUX wasn't enabled, and the option was greyed out in engineering menu. The process to enable Audio AUX in my car is shown in this video:

If you need to do the same (unlikely I guess since yours is a later NTG version), note that it's a good idea to make a note of the TGW parameter settings before you turn off MOST, since they will all get reset when you turn it back on.

Simple... :D

Thanks for this. I seem to remember you mentioning this before, hence the question re screen size so I could set it right at the beginning

Suspect I may have a few more questions soon...... LOL

Lessons Learned installing a LIMCET Apple Carplay / Android Auto Box with NTG4.0
  1. Putting the COMAND Head Unit back in is tricky. There are lots of wires and not much space. It took me 2 hours to get it sorted. Just take your time and don’t force anything just a firm pressure. I found that there were two main issues:
    • Where to put that “big lump” of a connector of the original COMAND main plug inserted in the corresponding female plug of the new harness. I found it could be pushed down into an opening at the rear right hand side below where the COMAND unit will be in its final position. You can tuck some of the wires from the plug down this opening and toward the front of the car. This will help keep the plugs located down in this space (above the Aircon Controls)
    • The thick cables were bunching up behind the rear left the COMAND as you push it backwards. If you pull the thick harness cable that you should have emerging into the passenger side upper footwell gently as you push the COMAND back in it will slide fully into position
Anybody else fitted one of these and having trouble finding enough clearance to slide the head unit back in? @Borris1954 @ChrisPDuck ? I can feel the recess you refer to into which the connecter should go, but it just keeps popping up enough to stop the unit sliding back in!

Not much skin left on my knuckles now...

Dammed if I can get it back in (as the actress said to the bishop...) My arthritic hand is not helping neither. Had to resort to begging a local audio shop to help but cannot sort until May 11th. Pain, but I am also glad a local business seems to be doing well. I am sure they will sort in the blink of an eye and thus make me feel inadequate!

Base Systems

Sorry to hear that. I do recall it being a bit of a fiddle getting everything in, but I'm afraid I don't have a clear memory of how I did it. I also recall that something else stopped the unit going back in smoothly (i.e. part of the trim, not the new bulky wiring harness), but again I can't really recall what. Not being much help am I 🤣

BTW I have just tested that the internal microphone is working OK. There is another 3.5m jack plug at the "box" end of the new harness labelled MIC which goes into the MIC socket on the box (obviously!). Well when I select the microphone in Android Auto my words get picked up and put into text so that's all good.

Hi @Borris1954 - finally got someone to ease my NTG4.5 back in. Cost me £40 but hey ho.

I'm still not sure what goes where for audio. I can see a "fly lead" on the box end main harness and have an appropriate lead, but where do I connect it to? No socket in my glove box. Help!
