Your mileage didnt jump to 999,999 ? You needs MAPS fuel senders and some wiring changes. Change the fuel senders and add one wire to the circuit.

Then recode the rear fuse box to FUEL SENDER = MAPS and your gauge will be perfect.

Thanks for reply Miro.So i need to change the fuel senders then maps them? Did i need fuel senders from CLK? How i can map them? What wiring changes i must do? And how i can recode the rear fuse box? My millage is showing ----- .
Many Thanks Miro.

You need the cluster ID code and STAR to transfer the codings to the new (not second hand. Some say it's ok if the mileage on the second hand unit was higher than the recipient car) cluster. the mileage is held in seperate control modules and if they don't agree the mileage will default to ------ and the cluster will lock out.

MAPS is the 2003+ fuel sender standard for Mercedes. Pre-2002 models use "old fuel sender type".

If you dont know what is going on then I suggest you put back the old cluster and walk away. Just pray that your W209 hasnt banged up the mileage on your car to whatever the donor part thought it was.

I have seen people do things like that in the W220 S-Class and use old clusters with very high mileage, only to find that the car ADOPTS THE HIGHEST VALUE and that it can not be reversed.

Thereafter the cost and the headaches continue.

Once you have the correct 2003+ fuel senders and wiring then you can think about doing a cluster. At least that part of the job is compatible with both clusters and some software settings.

When it comes to the cluster .... you already caused a headache ! Now it needs to be checked and validated to see what the result is.

Minimal shopping list
----------------------
2 fuel senders (MAPS)
1 new cluster
1 modified W209 cluster support (behind)

Worst case scenario (likely here)
--------------------------------
1 new W209 cluster
1 new ignition switch.

Lots of special programming

Then someone to rectify the 999,999KM error when W209 clusters are used in W203 cars. Then someone to figure out what the true mileage is.

Was wondering what would happen if after you have travelled 1 mile after the 999,999KM or mile.

Will it reset to 000,001 again?

if that is the case, nothing to worry about as your car will be more in value :bannana: in a few years time

It goes to 1,000,000

Yeah I got that wrong didnt I ... edited it back to 1 million.

Someone at the moment is driving around Melbourne with 1,001,200. Then he found out (the hard way) that there is a correct way to do this.

How?

I know a man in the area that would give it a try!

Hi i just changed whole fuel system including fuel pump, fuel senders units.... in my w203 c320 petrol 2001.Whole fuel system i have from c class 2004.Old connection have 4 cables, new one have 5.I changed wiring connection i added one cabel to connection and rear fuse box. I recoded rear fuse box for "fuel senders = new senders mapps".But fuel gauges still not working:( Any idea what i done wrong?

Check the cluster coding also. That needs to be in MAPPS also.

i drive a w203 c200k manufactured on 17 jan 2002. I installed a second hand w209 cluster made on 2003. Luckily everything works perfect except the odo. the fuel gauge works well (only problem is, it is going down a bi slowly compared to the analog but I guess thats just an accuracy issue as the analog was going down too fast after the 1/2 mark).
I am looking for 2 things:
1. the w209 instrument cluster frame. I need to find its part number
2. my odo displays -------------. is there a way to correct this? could it be possibly "erased" and then coded?. who could do this erase? maybe one of these odometer correction shops? and the coding itself is it difficult for someone with a star and developper privileges on it?
