OK slightly different tack here.... i know i am going to be pinged for high insurace due to having zero no claims. Due to the nature of what i do for a living i have not had a need to own a car for some time. Anyway when phoning around i haven't found one that won't base the full years premiums on me living in london - but for 3/4 of the year having the car locked up in a secure specialist storage facility. Its not like its going to be on the road for 8-9 months of the year! Anyone give me some good pointers?

Have tried both Pete Best,Footmans and the AA for a laugh.

Insurance

Did you try asking Footman James for a limited mileage policy? If the car's a "classic" and you're a member of a car club you can normally get good rates, particularly if you have an everyday car. Which I imagine your employer might provide??

my everyday car is a B6 armoured car of some description as supplied by the company i am contracting for. As i said i am in the UK only for 3 or 4 months a year max. These are taken in one month lots - so the car is in storage for 2 or 3 months at a go before i come home. When i do come home i tend to do a few miles and that means around 2,500 a month which means i don't get a limited mileage policy.

So looking for alternatives.

Try Peter Best. I'd call them rather than use the web quote. http://www.peterbestinsurance.co.uk/

They have some very good prices on AGREED value (i.e. no argument in the event of total loss) policies for members of http://www.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk/

Incidentally, Richard at ********** sold my 190E 2.5-16 for me. It was an easy transaction and the buyer, who lived abroad & didn't have the time to look for or at cars spread all over the country for himself was happy to pay the small premium Richard charged for finding the right car.

What's a B6?

B6 is the level of armour that is on the car.

I drive around in anything from W140 Mercs, 740 BMW's(last model) but i guess my faves are the ex RUC low profile cars, ie mondeo's, vectras, omegas.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in **********, lovely chap to chat to etc when you get him on the phone.

Just tried Adrian Flux who told me i wasn't in the country long enough, apparently i need to be in the country for 6 months of the year to get car insurance with them - funny i thought it was the car i was insuring.

Whilst your working abroad so much why bother? Hire a car and enjoy it, just look at all the costing figures?

I accept though you want your own car, but I am merely putting forward a different option.
