A friend (a Singaporean resident in the UK) who is joining me on a wine trip to France (along with 6 others) in May has a brother joining him from Singapore for the trip. He has a clean Singapore licence. Unfortunately my friend's insurers aren't willing to consider cover, so does anybody know of insurers who could help with this from experience? Many thanks for any help in advance.

I once added my Croatian FIL onto my policy for a couple of weeks when the in laws were house sitting.

It wasnt massively expensive but from recollection it was about £150 for the 2 weeks cover. I wouldnt mention the France trip as that would increase the premium and under EU law he'll be covered anyway. (first directive on motor insurance)

alternatively have you considered DayInsure?

Alas DayInsure don't cover Singaporeans.

I suspect a complication is the car is an Aston Martin too. :)

I'm not sure whether it helps due to the specific circumstances (foreign driver and an Aston...), but there are a fair few companies specialising in temporary cover only which might me worth a shot? Temporary Car Insurance

I tried to get my father insured for my CLS and Boxster .. Admiral would not add him as a driver as he did not have an EU licence.

Having done a lot of googling and going through, most companies restrict their cover to those with EU licences, and those who don't tend to restrict them to the US and Oz/Kiwi drivers.

Thanks all.

Just a thought - would changing your cover to "any driver" allow this? Or would that be any driver with an EU license?

If that isn't, what is?

Equal to 3900 of our finest pounds for 12 months, that price is lower than any lad under 21 for a 1000cc fiesta!

No wonder folks are running the risk of driving without insurance now.

I fear the friend whose car it is and who has been refused cover from his existing insurer for his brother might have difficulty getting that through them, but worth a try.

Wow Charles....you own a tii !!! Fantastic car....had one myself and a total of five 2002s over the years !!!

Now back to subject :)

2002's are much more interesting than this subject, but thanks to those who have helped.
