I phoned my insurance today to get a quote for 2017 M4.
Bear in mind I am 46 years old with 14 years NCB, Clean License never ever got insurance refused, Never ever had any points.
I live in IG11 Post Code..

Quote I got from Chris Knott Insurance £3200 :(
I've been with Chriss Knott for nearly 6-7 years as they been very competitive so far.
Comparison sites are coming around £3500 or around.
I had performance cars most of the times. I really don't understand how this works.

Any tips, at this Rate i won't be able to get C43 AMG or M3 at all.

I suspect the a13 is a great escape corridor for stolen high end fast cars. Harwich Felixstowe etc. Put your wife as a named driver

Load names onto the insurance to see if it lowers, some insurers will lower with an s5 tracker installed but that's 800 installed and a 200 quid subscription service.
My mate has an M4 in Warwickshire and his isn't as painful and he's 29 !? Must be the location.

It's all down to your postcode. Sorry to say but short of moving, you'll have to suck it up if you want a high performance car.

Have you got a quote from brokers such as A Plan and Adrian Flux? One of those may be able to make it less painful.

To make things hurt even more, I've just used Compare the Market to get a quote for a 2018 E63S valued at £54500.
The premium is £588 and I'm past retirement age. Adding 10 years to the quote made no difference either.
This is a Bournemouth postcode and it is making the difference between my quote and yours.

^^^ X2. Definitely certain postcodes, hotspot areas and the car itself. Mines reasonable at £560, 12NCB for m157 w212 but my S211 with m156 was a little more expensive, about £100 more 👍

Postcode will 'drive' this and Essex is a very hot hotspot. Your age and history is very secondary to the postcode and current car theft profile (some of the knobs you see driving AMG, RS and M cars like knobs - nobody on here of course - don't help with claims data).
Add to this an increase in motor premiums generally and you're in a perfect storm.

I don't know Chris Knott but as a 'good' motor broker they will have access to all the correct, main and specialist markets.

If you can garage it, add recognised anti theft systems, a recognised tracker, add the missus to it, limit mileage, limit to SD&P plus C (no business use) increase the excess (relying on your security) that will help them.

It will damage your enjoyment of the car though as they believe of (and have data, even experience) thefts, potentially involving violence or home invasion - we had a member on here a few years ago that replaced his AMG with a Skoda iirc due to the home invasion he suffered when it was stolen...

A number of RS6 owners have (apparently) suffered similar recently

And the police response is too little and too late as they are shipped to the docks or broken for parts.

If the insurers are that worried about a claim, I would suggest you should be as well.....
It's not you, it's the scrotes!

Sad world.

At least you've not bought one yet?

This is the worst kind of scrotes, its the violence they use😦

It's the IG postcode. Our son used to live in one and insurance was triple that when in an RH postcode. Incidentally Chris Knot were by far the most competitive for him on both his cars. He has now moved to RM postcode and the premium has gone down 50%.

I've always been a BMW car owner I had approx 17 of them, This time I fancied a change got myself C300d AMG Line, Night Edition Premium plus.
It's a lovely ride but I'm missing my BMW.
Only had the Merc since 23rd May.

What about a 440i , obviously it is never going to be an M car but they can get a bit of a hustle and will be much more friendly to insure (i am £350 FC to insure mine)

80% of the M4`s straightline performance / 60% of the purchase price and 50% of the running cost , plus they fly below the radar as they look like a 420d but with two exhausts.

I was on the phone to my Insurance Broker, What I have been told whole Insurance market is crazy right now they have lost some business as not just mine every second quote they are doing is getting referred..
Comes back with some unbelievable numbers.

I bought in 2021 Brand new M135i I paid £700 fully Com, If I have to insure it now it's £1600 WTF
I checked all the comparison sites even they all are Kaput...😩
Coming up with same crazy numbers.

Might as well go and buy a Fiest 1.0 maybe they can insure that for under £1k 🤪

Better hurry up as they are stopping making them soon.

That’s lovely Kenny. 👌

Regardless of the badge it has the right ingredients for a good car , IMHO - RWD , two door coupe with near 400hp and a decent audio system.

Was on the cusp of selling it due to lack of use but it is such a good car that even for the minimal miles it gets driven i would certainly miss it , in its 10k miles it has had three oil changes , two brake fluid changes and a plug change - got to love modern cars servicing schedules.

Report on BBC today on how premiums have apparently risen 40%.😲

Got the house insured today, last year £460 , this year £560 , so called them to see if they could do anything for me , they reduced it to £450, so less than last year - bloody chancers.
