Insurance is a JOKE

What about a 440i , obviously it is never going to be an M car but they can get a bit of a hustle and will be much more friendly to insure (i am £350 FC to insure mine)

80% of the M4`s straightline performance / 60% of the purchase price and 50% of the running cost , plus they fly below the radar as they look like a 420d but with two exhausts.

K
Could'nt agree more! Had a 440i, approx 1 second 'slower' and realistically, better ride than M4 + lower service and insurance costs!!

Groan…just got our house insurance renewal through - up to over £1500 from £1050 last year. Last year it went up a couple of hundred and I just renewed as I couldn’t be bothered with looking around. This year the increase is quite a lot more. I wonder if they apply an algorithm whereby they load your premium more if you just auto-renewed previously?

Anyone have any recommendations for house cover including quite a few bicycles? With M&S currently…

Ours is with Aviva. Last year £309.48. This Year - £309.67.
Robbing gits 😂
Admittedly, no bicycles.

We actually used Aviva a while back, I had been with them for many years. We then had 6 bikes stolen from the garage at our last house and it took them a year to pay out! Had to fight literally every inch. For instance they offered a £1000 Giant as an equivalent of my custom Ti bike. In the end I had to create a spreadsheet for each bike detailing all the components of the bikes and current retail value and links to retailers etc. we got there in the end though. To be honest I’m sure most insurance companies are the same!

It's the same old story; irrespective of how much your premium is, the proof of the pudding is how well a claim is handled...sounds like 'nil points' for Aviva, which is encouraging, not.

Bloody he'll Chris.... do you live in a stately home! Just renewed mine at £305.....no bikes...I have cars!....but covers possessions away from home, wife jewellery etc and i live within 250 metre of the sea which loads it... that seems like a lot of dough.

Ha ha, no but the bikes do bump it up quite a bit. The bikes are secure at home but it’s more the coverage when we’re out using them on hols etc. I did look at separate bike insurance but it worked out at 10% value of the bikes - per year! 😳 Sigh….heres to a weekend of internet quotes…boo!

Just had the renewal for the SLK through from Churchill - slightly less than last year!. However, their quote for the C220 is a joke - 2 1/2 times what I'm getting on the comparison sites - and 70% more than the offered renewal from LV, who've insured it for a few years! It's a bloody minefield. Until now with LV I've also had personal full breakdown cover so we're covered whichever car we're in, but LV now only offer vehicle based cover so that's second reason I will not be renewing with them. Autoaid full perconal cover - just over £80! Mate of mine has been with them for some years and is happy, so that's good for me!

Good shout with autoaid , I’ve been with them for quite a few years. Had to call them out when the Abarth gearbox ate itself. Excellent service. 👍

I completely agree
As far as I can recall and I've driven and owned a car for just over 45 years, the last 30 odd years, I've only gone
with a big bran name - recent years, Aviva several times, LV a few times, Directline a couple of times and the previous three years
at a fixed price for 3 yrs insurance, it has been with SAGA. I was paying just shy of 300 their top line insurance
This year, a few days ago I renewed with Saga again but not a fixed price as I expect costs to go down
I've always had NCB protected, me and Mrs as named drivers, courtesy car etc inc windscreen cover and excess about 500.

This time the premium was almost 500 - but Aviva, 900-ish - LV a lot more than that and Direct line in between the two
We live in a low risk London area - car is always on the drive and we live in a close.

Recent hit and run - SAGA staff we 100% helpful - best customer service ever - I managed to clean up the marks, it was a 'info only
claim, but a claim nevertheless (I told insurance as police were involved as it was a hit an run.

Avia, another hit and run in 2006 was pretty good but Saga, for me, you can not beat them for customer service nd that is priceless when you need them

Finally sorted new home insurance - I’d forgotten about it and it was due to auto renew tomorrow. Found Halifax pretty good with the bikes covered, for £850/ year which is a big improvement on m&s’s renewal at £1500! The website was easy to use, quite a few others wanted me to call which I just couldn’t be @rsed with.

As the bikes tend to bump it up I took the trouble to work out the replacement cost. No small feat as none are off the peg. Just as well really as I had underestimated by quite a margin. It really brings home the effect of inflation the last few years! 😳

This is the reason why, despite being able to afford a mint bike (which I use at least once week EVERY week of the year) I only own cheaper sub £500 (second hand) bikes.

I really really want a Whyte 909 with Pike forks, but the insurance hike is utter ^£&÷[×^£:÷,**

And they are only circa £1k secondhand

You can get some great bargains second hand. Quite a few years ago I built up a Yeti 575 based around a second hand frame and Revelation fork , my existing hope wheels and new everything else. Saved a lot over new though I did replace all the bushes on the frame and seals in the fork. I enjoy that stuff though. 😁

One of my multi-car policies with five cars on it is due for renewal, so I gave them a call to see if they could improve on the renewal price. It was already fairly reasonable but I was interested to see if they could improve on it.

The renewal price was just 1% more than last year, however the discounts applied by the loyalty team have reduced the overall renewal by almost 10% which means that in practice I’m paying close to 9% less than last year.

Discounts varied between 4.7% and 7.4% per car, making each between 4.1% and 14.1% less to insure compared to last year. The most expensive car to insure was the one with the biggest discount and swing, and hence 9% less overall.

Hopefully this is the right thread for this question -

Is there usually any ‘grace’ period for NCD? At our renewal last year (multi-policy, two cars and the house) Mrs B”s licence had been suspended (she’d had a seizure a few months previously), so the protected NCD on her car was ‘transferred’ to me, as I was the only named driver on both cars.

This year, now she’s driving again, the total premium was reduced several hundred £s from last year. But the NCD on both cars is still in my name.

I asked for hers to be transferred back, (there is a reason for wanting this, even though it wouldn’t improve this year’s premium) but was told that she didn’t actually have any NCD, as her driving record hadn’t been continuous. This after 50+ years of driving without ever making a claim! So, is this normal?

Thanks in advance
Malcolm

Recently got my renewal from Churchill. £352.

Last year it was £418. No changes to the policy……..

Not that I’m complaining!
