Insurance is a JOKE

Is the i3 'expensive' to insure given its uniqueness and potential challenges when repairing body work?

Parts will be available for many a year I take it?
It is more expensive than 'run of the mill' ICE of the same size. £345 for this coming year, but considering it is and EV (which allegedly will be written off if you show it a picture of an accident:rolleyes:) and is of carbon construction, it seems sensible. Certainly it is only a third the cost to insure compared with the Bentley.

Thought I'd post a bit of 'good' news about an insurance policy I just bought for a change.

Managed to drop another chunk of money off my insurance renewal this year, which amazes me - 2 years ago I insured my E63S for £1100 (because of modifications I didn't know were on the car when I bought it). Last year it dropped to £842 (both years using 'Insure2Drive') and now I've bought a policy with Swinton for £620.

A drop of £500 in 2 years isn't bad in my book - could have got it even lower if I didn't want European cover.

With all that said, all the usual 'Modified Specialists'like Adrian Flux et al, were well above the £1000 mark without exception...

For reference, that's for a 49 year old, 8000 miles a year, parked on my driveway and owning another car.

I thought all car insurance sold in the UK had to have Euro cover as std.......

I think @SpikyMikey is right looking at the Google-a-thon! Third party in Europe is mandatory with UK sold policies, fully comp is optional.....Having just looked at mine it comes with fully comp.....I don't drive it on mainland Europe so might see if I can get the insurance cheaper if I don't have fully comp for overseas next time.

Of course he’s right, because @SpikyMikey wrote the Internet.

If you don't believe me then view any web page on a 640x480 display, and follow the characters down from top left to bottom right and, you’ll see S p i k y evenly spelled out along the diagonal, and M i k e y diagonally starting top right.

If you don’t have a 640x480 display then you’ll still see all of the letters, they just won’t line up neatly as described above.

Nurse! The screens!

With Admiral, who have been cheapest for the past 2 years.
I moved a couple of years ago when my premiums mysteriously jumped from around £350 a year to £700, where they remain.
Still the cheapest e.g. Swinton and many other insurers want £1500+, only a handful are below £1k.
No accidents no points 20 years NCD.
Well into middle age, nice part of a quiet town.
Last year £705 with 12k miles.
This year £675 with 12k miles.
Not exactly the drop I was hoping for, for an old oil burner with a couple of cylinders missing.

Insured the new E63s today and the best quote came from LV, a company with offices only a few miles from me.
I got two quotes beforehand, one with no modifications, and one with a carbon diffuser to replace the OE gloss black one and a carbon splitter, both from CT Carbon. The difference was £60 which I'm totally fine with all things considering. I went with modified.

Anyone want to hazard a guess at the annual premium?
Take into consideration I'm old grunter status now and the car is valued at over £50k
I'll update the price later.

Hope I'm wrong, but. £1,450
