Had a slight prank last week in my 52 plate W163

Damage is only slight....

Bumper
Grille
Bonnet - not so sure about this
Headlight - also not sure

It seems its around £4k worth of work

Insurance informed me they intend to write it off as a Cat D

G R E A T....supposed to be driving down to Cornwall with daughter next week

Upshot is the Insurance *rseholes have offered me £3600....gits

Told them wouldnt be able to install an LPG system for much less than that and for them to go away and have 'a little rethink'

We will see

"Contract Repair" or "Fixed Price Repair" are the words you're looking for. Take it to a good local bodyshop, go by recommendations, have it inspected and leave them to broker a deal with the insurer.

A traditional body repairer will be a lot cheaper as they may be able to effect repair without too many new parts.

Thanks folks

I am in Grantham so Nottingham or Lincoln is close by

How does the fixed price work as surely they will simply find what the main dealer has found?

When a bodyshop does an estimate for an insurer then they base that on an inspection that generally doesn't involve much dismantling. The insurer agrees to pay for the repair and if more underlying damage is found then the bill goes up. Or if parts take time to arrive and the rental car is costing more the bill goes up.

Fixed price repair means the bodyshop provides a quote and contracts to repair the car for that cost. That's what I did with my C class.

They'll arrange a contract repair - that is they'll repair it for a fixed price, so rather than replacing everything they might instead mend things or used second hand parts to keep the cost down.

A big issue with the older cars is the cost of parts - using second hand - but perfectly good parts can help stop costs getting out of hand.

£3600 is a crap offer BTW.

That should cost no more than £2k to repair, maybe less.

Get your car back before it ends up at a salvage auction...

latest is they have upped their offer to £6.5k
Although it was declared they are not allowing for the LPG system i have fitted

Looked around but cant find something with the same spec for £6.5k

They are saying that is all they are prepared to offer

As smash was my fault, I only have an A Class as a hire car
A great car but am supposed to be driving to cornwall on holiday with family

It never rains, it pours.......

Anybody know of anywhere with good hire rates as dont want to disappoint my 5 year old that we cant go on holiday

let them pay you out on the car and as part of the settlement tell them that you you retain the right to salvage as part of the deal, then get the car repaired independently out of the payout, your LPG system is intact and you are back on the road with a motor you know and a few quid in your pocket. I have just done exactly this with my daughters car that got wrote off by a foreign lorry driver.:thumb:

Ok,

How does that work then?
They are supposed to be sending a salvage company to recover it soon

what would i need to pay them for the vehicle?
