What exactly do I need in my W210 E320CDI Elegance with Audio 10 to connect a mobile phone up so that the buttons on the steering wheel work and I can make and receive calls via the car's speakers?

Orange have said they can fit a car kit but it will have its own speaker and microphone and I can't dial from the wheel buttons - which is kinda silly.

If anyone knows what bits I need to get and where to get them, I'd really appreciate it :-)

Thanks,

-simon

oh

oh, my phone is a Nokia 6310i at the moment, but I'd be quite happy to put any phone in the car (even an old brick phone if needed) with a pre-pay sim card and use it as a car-phone. Just whatever's easiest so I can use the speakers and dialing from the wheel :)

I had this retroffited on my W211 E320 CDI at a cost of £1,750.

Not a cheap thing to do but I think it's much easier in the W210 as the wiring is simplified.

I hope so! Hopefully someone here will know :)

As opposed to £495 when ordering the vehicle. Sorry Marcos  I also wanted Linguatrinic, I dread to think how much that would cost as a retro fit??

210 Was £390 when ordered with the vehicle.

Good luck with your quest,
John

I have two major regrets when I ordered the W211.

No. 1 was that I didn't order the parking sensors and No.2 was the phone kit.
You live and learn. :o

I have a phone, phone holder, and PSE module for sale if you want to install integrated phone. It's an earlier model nokia, but it works perfectly. You will still need a phone wiring loom (including D2B) and a microphone.

Cool. How much would you want for it, and what model nokia is it? :-) (And where would I look for a wiring loom and microphone? Mercman?)

Totally agree, life is a cruel teacher.

Parktronic is okay, but I preferred the 210 version. My very slight complaint is that the audible warning could sound further away than what it does. Front sensors sound off at 100cm and rear 120cm. ;) I would prefer the audible warning to start a little further back with an intermittant beeping and then as you get closer perhaps change to a continual tone. (personal choice). The lights do however start illuminating further away from any obstacle and having a second display in the headlining is an improvement.

I suppose my regret is not getting the AMG............ !!!!!!! kit. I like the lines of the 211, but the AMG kit is the icing on the cake. (The 5.5ltr engine is just to impractical for our own use)

Regards,
John

The phone is a Nokia 3110. It is complete with a holder (A220 820 03 01) which is ideal for (hidden) armrest mounting. The PSE module ('black box') is A220 820 09 85. There is also a brand new spare battery for the phone.

The phone is unlocked to cellnet or vodaphone. It is a single band phone, so won't work with Orange. This does, however, make it perfect for the integral MB low band cellphone aerial fitted as standard to many models.

I had this kit installed in my car, it all works perfectly. You can control the phone from the steering wheel buttons, so you never actually need to ever see or touch the phone itself.

You can have the lot for £100. I live in Nottinghamshire, which is pretty 'central'. If you decide that you want this stuff, and want to collect in person, then I can show you it working in my car.

PM me with your e-mail address and I can send pictures.

W211 Integrated phone

The worst £500 I spent. The car is only six months old and has been back to the garage, because of this car kit, more times than my previous Audi did over 100k miles for routine servicing.

The internal diagnostics show my car phone has failed 11 times and that is in the 2 months since a system reload. The replacement controller can't be sourced here or at the factory so I guess I that I am in a rather long queue!.

Mercedes have lost the plot - Bluetooth (i.e. an open upgradeable system) is the answer not wired disfunctional proprietary sytems.

When we first had our car the telephone was driving us made not working properly. The dealer was forever collecting it and taking it away. Eventually the fault was traced to the........ blinking sim card. Evidently there are different upgrade versions of sim cards??????? (I am way out of my depth here) I contacted my supplier (Vodaphone) They gave me a new sim card for the Nokia 6310i and the phone has behaved perfectly for months.

I am definitely NOT telling you what might be wrong with your system, just merely passing on my misfortune, which may, or may not be helpful.

Good luck,
John

Thanks - worth a try. How long had you had your sim card? My Orange SIM card is just 8 months old.

The software version of the phone is OK. However the controller is definitely suspect along with the cradle according to the technician. He studied my phone looking at all the connections at the base and ruled out that as a problem.

My card was about 18 months old and the 6310i worked perfectly when not in the car. However when it was in the car we were plagued with a message similar to signal not obtainable. Sorry I can't remember the exact words.

New card no problems whatsoever.

Good luck,
John

Sad to read all this phone hassle.

I have never had a problem with my phone system. My W122 was 6 months old when I got it. I bought a sim free Nokia 6310i a Virgin Mobile sim and I have had no problems at all.

You can get the 6310i quite cheaply off ebay and it does everything you need like be able to talk and send text messages!

(Unfortunatly its not in colour and you cant play games on it and get poly tones but I never need this on the car!)

In all fairness with my own vehicle it was not the telephone, it worked perfectly. It was simply incompatibility that caused the problem.

I am remembering the termology now and it was a 'generation' issue. The telephone system on the 211 only works properly with ??????? generation cards. I can't remember if the dealer said words like second or maybe third generation sim cards?? (might even be fourth)

Anyway the dealer had renewed the cradle, upgraded the software, all to no avail. After contacting Germany they told me about the sim card. I contacted Vodaphone and they gave me a new sim card and since then it has been perfect.

The Nokia 6310i is one of a number of telephones recommeded by Mercedes-Benz for the 211.

Regards,
John
