Interesting conversion

Yes, indeed it's interesting. A lot work and looks like a proper job was done too. Sadly, it does nothing for me but full marks to the builder.

I've got one of these that will go in that

My second rally car was an Astra Mk2

It wont go into that astra though..

I just dont get why you would want to diguise a 190 as some pile of crap from luton.

Ad says its ready to accept a Cossie YB + MT75 gearbox so it should go straight in :dk:

Most reports from back in the late 80's early 90's always said that the Mk2 Astra GTE 16v engine was too much for the chassis... Whats a Cossie Turbo engine going to do to it? tramline madness and body twisting carnage?

People tend to not worry about whether the engine will overpower the chassis even on new cars, it's all about bragging rights. ;)

Its not an Astra chassis though its a MB 190 chassis, read the spec of that car and it will easily handle 300 bhp whilst still being stiff and handleable, that said I'd want to see the build quality before dropping something like that into it, but you have to appreciate the quality and engineering thats gone into it

What's the point of going to all that effort and then trying to sell it without an engine?

There are a couple of KDCC members with mk1 astras used for stage and road rally's and they seem to get on fine with them.

I saw an article in Pacenotes magazine about an Astra that was being developed to replace the Manta 400 as a lighter 'B' weapon. It was running a pinto in the article but had some serious potential.

Quite an interesting car. There are a couple of KDCC members running Astras for stage and road rallying and they do ok! So they cant be that bad. It's got a sump guard but the Exhaust and brake pipes look to be in for a beating!

I think that could make an interesting and light 12car/road rally toy!

You would think using 190E running gear would make it a bit heavy?

I thought exactly that and looking at it I'm a bit bemused as to whey he changed the chassis at all and didn't just stiffen the Astra one like we did, the only thing I can think is it made it easier to accept a modern Cossie lump :dk: but suspect you probably right in what you gain in power from the modern lump might be lost by the additional weight as I said I'd like to see it in the flesh but its a bit top price for what it is there's some good rolling shells about for much less than that.

It's been designed as a "sleeper", a rediculously modified car which outwardly looks standard, bet he was king of the traffic lights before he sold the cossie lump. Let's face it, if you hadn't read the description and the only photo was the side view, chances are you'd probably overlook the Mercedes wheels and just see a tidy looking astra gte. Dare say if I'd have done the build I certainly would've gone for a different wheel option just to throw off the "eagle eyed" train spotter types. Oh and I would've kept the Vauxhall badge instead of the merc one!

One of those cosworth engines is on ebay at the moment for over 60 grand .....

There is tuning an engine and then there is building a competition engine.

When you price up a serious build for parts and engineering it can be a bit of an eye opener for some!

Link...?

Car modifiers will do crazy things just to have that one of a kind car. I remember way back when, in my days of reading Max Power there was a guy who had a full cossie 4wd system including engine grafted into a 1st gen escort cabriolet (mk3 or mk4, not sure which). Done properly too, transmission tunnel from a sierra, seriously strengthened chassis and wheel arches nodded for either 17 or 18inch wheels before having the whole thing resprayed in ford imperial blue. Total build run him about £30,000 but he thought it was worth it cos it was unique.

Go to www.ebay.co.uk and search for cosworth engine :-)
