An interesting photograph (well to me) relating to my hometown, which I found while looking at old photos online. It's from a reliable source so the info should be correct.

I love this type of old photo! I wonder if the registration was chosen as "600" or was just a co-incidence? :)

It certainly was possible to 'choose' registrations, to some extent. My grandfather managed to get "S150" on his 1959 Jaguar XK 150S drophead, and he wasn't a celebrity or VIP!

They parked in true mercedes fashion back then too!

:D

Of course...it isn't 1965...unless that's a pre-production Escort. The Escort hit the streets in 1968.

The Merc is a 67-68.

When the 600 was registered!

Grumpy, do you know a Dave Chriss by chance?

The Ford's on a H plate, so it was at least 1969 /1970 when the picture was taken.

The 600's F reg, so 1968

:D You've better eyes than me...I didn't see the H.

Well spotted with the plates, must admit I hadn't noticed that.
I do remember talk of this at the time but haven't a clue to what year it was and I'm still trying to identify the street which looks familiar.
Senior moment :fail

As I recall Ringo also had a Facel Vega around the same time.

There's also a white Ford Capri on the right of the photo (behind the Mk2 Cortina estate) and they arrived in February 1969.

Nifty edit there!!

Mike, he used to be the sales manager at the old Porsche/MB dealership in Kingswinford back in the 80s, and a friend of my old flatmate (who comes from Stourbidge).

Local licencing offices used to be quite helpful in this regard and such correlations are quite common .

Nowadays , DVLA view such things as an opportunity to make money and withhold desirable registration marks so they can be auctioned off .

Yes , the H plate on the Escort makes it '68 or '69 at the earliest .

As I recall , Ringo had a couple of Facel Vegas , George Harrison also had one .

Ringo also had a 190SL back in the day , which I think is now owned by someone in the MBOC .

All of the Beatles had 600's , apart from Paul , who refused to buy one and had his white Rolls-Royce with the number MUS 1C on it !

Much later , Paul was seen driving a silver W126 .

The only celebrity, car related photo I can find for the locale is.

At least, I think it's someone famous...
