Interior Lights inop when door's open

Hi All

Small problem on my W203 I'm hoping you an help with.

The interior lights don't come on when a door is opened. They work fine if manually turned on and the external fog lamps come on when a door is opened in the dark.

Because of the latter I'm thinking that the door sensors are working OK and fuses must be OK for the interior lights to work when manually switched on.

So why will they not come on when a door is opened ?

Press the left hand switch on the overhead console.

pushing the overhead switch to the left turns them on manually, the switch should be to the right to activate lights on with door open.

I'm guessing I have a broken switch in the light cluster

That's right. There's a particular sequence. Look in your manual because it might be different to mine.

On my W203,it's the switch in the middle position for door opening lights.

There are also 'options' in the menu that can I think change the times and even whether to come on.

as above, switch should be in the middle position.
also note they may not work in daylight - depends on the year.
