Got a dog for a week and wondered how to turn off the interior sonics so we can still lock the car and his movement not to set it off - Car is a W163

It will say in the handbook. Don't know about the 163, but most other cars I've had use a button to disable the interior sensors (which resets every time you unlock).

This is what the button looks like on my car:

Pressing the bottom side will disable interior sensors (upper side will disable tow-away alarm).

It can sometimes be something like pressing the lock button on the remote twice. You need the handbook (or a 163 owner ;)) really.

Will check the manual tonight, but I am 99% sure the ML does not have that button.

Here is a pic of a W163 interior (thanks to A210AMG previous posts)
Definitely no interior sensor button.

OK, as "corned" suggests that tow-away protection can be deactivated with the switch above the rear view mirror.

Procedure:

Turn key to position 1 and press OFF button
Turn key to position 0 and remove
Press either side of switch again within 30 seconds
If you have the trip computer instead using the same switchl, press either reset or mode within 30 seconds of removing the key.
Lock the vehicle.

The alarm is triggered for the following reasons:
Door/tailgate unlocked and opened
bonnet opened
vehicles position is changed
window is smashed.

This therefore suggests that there is no internal movement sensor, but switching off the tow away protection should mean that movement from the dog in the car should make no difference.

How does it know a window has been broken if there's no internal movement sensor??

There is a "Glass Breakage Sensor" apparently next to the tow away switch:confused:, I have scanned the handbook for clarity.

Possibly detects pressure change, or even just the noise of a breakage. Could still be set off by a dog jumping about or barking, I suspect.

Generally not a good idea to leave a dog in the car anyway ... you should really have a window open for ventilation, which many alarms won't like.
