I just bought a 2019 C220d saloon with 17k miles. As soon as you enter the car there is a mouldy odour and musty unpleasant smell like old socks or wet dog. Is there an issue with the cars heating/aircon system to cause this smell? Once driving with the aircon working the smell is not as bad as the initial entry to the car.

If the A/C hasn't been used for a while (i.e whilst its been on the forecourt), its more than likely the cabin filters will need changing. Over time and the longer they are used, they cultivate lots of bacteria, which is what is giving you the smell. Onwards regular A/C servicing will take care of that in the future.

Was this bought from a dealer?

If so then take it back. There may be a leak and the car is under warranty.
