I have an A class 160 which fails to start. There is no life at all when the ignition key is turned. I have taken it to garages who have repalced an exhaust management sensor?! and another who put it on a diagnostic and said it was the starter motor.
I don't think it is any of these as all of the dashboard warning lights fail to come on [ bar the SRS light]
The car can start easily 'bump start' when pushed - but I'm getting to old for all this!!
I wondered if anybody has had similar problems or can throw any light on this for me:confused:

Yes i did thanks for that but it looks like a garage job for me. You mentioned a starter lockout relay I presume this is different from the ignition switch? If so where is it located?

The relay will be in the engine bay. There is a black housing behind the washer fluid tank. (it has an AC sticker) remove the 3 torx screws and pull out any foam sponge packing to reveal a green relay....

Mercedes has revised the part number of this relay. Parts dept will give you the correct one when you go in.

TIP: near your battery should be a leaflet detailing relay part numbers etc - although it doesnt show the location of the starter locout relay.

If the realy and switch doesnt help you then it's more than likely your starter motor (engine needs to be dropped )
