'06 a class 1.7 auto
Hi, I'm new to this forum and not mechanically minded at all. I'm after some advice please. I have an '06 a class 1.7 automatic. I recently had an issue with a squealing noise on a front wheel. A friend replaced both front brake pads, discs and bearings and in the process had to remove an abs sensor and so that was also replaced. The squealing remained. Also now the abs/esp light was on meaning the car is in limp mode and the petrol gauge isn't working. Took it to a local garage and they replaced the front left calliper to cure the squeal. They thought maybe the new abs sensor may be faulty and so tried swapping it for a better make. But the issue remained so they put the cheaper abs sensor back on and recommended I take it back to the friend who did the original work and get them to sort out the issue. However, When I collected the car the guy had moved it out of the workshop and the fault had gone, abs light was off, car wasn't in limp mode and petrol gauge working. So I thought it was going to be OK. But no! The car is fine when first started, After driving long enough for the car to warm up the abs light comes on again, back in limp mode and no petrol gauge again. So I'm after some advice, after having already paid out a fortune (to me) for this work I'd like to try to narrow down the possible causes before I take it to the garage again. Had anyone had any similar experience? And what was the cause? Or can anyone recommend what might be best to check first? The car isn't worth alot but having already paid out for this work and I can't afford to replace it so I'd like to get to the bottom of it as cheaply as possible. I live in a rural area and need my car for forthcoming school runs. Thanks in advance for any advice

Maybe take it to an independent MB specialist garage, much cheaper than main dealers, they will plug it in and check your codes for faults, which end of Kent are you? Someone on here is bound to know of a spec, garage not too far off. Welcome to the forum ,good luck. 👍

No takers? You could always Google independent specialist garage in your north west area, or, when you initially come on this site scroll down to find "Talk to a mercedes mechanic", you should get some answers, give it a go. P.

Thank you again Peter for your advice, I'll check there now

As Peter said, the key is to get someobe who knows these cars to read the fault codes and diagnose the issue.

That said, it does sound like an electrical fault rather than a mechanical one... e.g. battery, front/rear SAM, etc.

Has the car been jump-started recently? Or used to jump-start another car?

Thanks Peter, I'm North West Kent. So yes if anyone can recommend anywhere nearby that would be great 👍
Have you tried Stevenson Mercedes at New Hythe Business Park, Unit 8 , Access 4/20, Bellingham Way, Larkfield ME20 7HP, United Kingdom?

I take all my A-Classes down from London to Steve there.
