Found a fluid leak and following inspection found the power steering reservoir empty, the local garage investigated and said it was the power steering pump that had a leak and needed replacing. The pump has been changed but now the steering is intermittently stiff when the engine has run for a few seconds but is cold but being revved. I have taken it back to the garage who have said there is not an issue. anybody with any ideas as I am going mad with this.

Poorly bled?.....air in the system? Have you tried winding it from lock to lock a few times when stationary.....a sure fire way to drive out air.....either do it on soft ground or put a couple of glossy mags under the tyres to avoid tread damage.

Hi, was it an MB specialist who did the work? Reason for the question is that the pas must be refilled in a specific way or air will get into the system which even MB say is difficult to get out!

yes it was a VAG Merc specialist

They should know what they are doing then. Does sound like air not unless the new pump is duff which is unlikely. Keep working the steering to see if you can get the air out. When I changed a leaking hose on my A207 it took about 15 cycles back and forth with the engine off to get all the bubbles out.

I will keep trying that, at least it will not cost me anymore but I have told the garage that they will be having it back if it does not work

Not done this myself but I believe it can be quite a 'work out' ie: many , many times 'lock to lock' with the engine off . Probably not the best video , but something like this guy say's

Thank you, happy to try anything

I have tried the process of the steering wheel back n forth to improve the steering and left the car for 3 days. Took it out this morning and all worked but not with an very light feel then as I pulled up to the house the steering suddenly went to heavy to steer. I am now thinking it could be the solenoid?
