Intermittently poor accelaration

My fan belt snapped on my C270 CDI recently, I have replaced it, the engine did overheat slightly but I was told by the rescue mechanic that the head gasket hadnt gone. The problem i have is the car only runs at full acceleration sometimes. and sometimes when I put my foot down it is really sluggish, it isn't losing water, the heater works ok etc. can anyone adivse please?

Sounds like its running intermittent limp mode.
Very common on these engines.
I could reel off a whole list of causes but that would be counterproductive.
Your best bet would be to get it checked by a local mercedes specialist who is running the "STAR" diagnostics system.
This is the only way to be sure you are not wasting money fixing perfectly good parts.
