Facelift W221 S600L AMG
Hi All,

Newbie here, hello! Had a V12 itch to scratch and gone out and acquired a W221 facelift S600. Obsidian black (197U) with exclusive interior (530a, 585a). Lovely car.

I really like the combo of S600 interior with the AMG kit. It has 950 AMG Package plus 770 AMG 19" wheels and 772 AMG Styling front spoiler, side skirt.

I have been trying to find out how rare that might be but can only seem to get to model numbers from howmanyleft which indicates the following numbers of facelift S600's.

2010 - 27
2011 - 13
2012 - 8
2013 - 1

Does anyone know how to find out how many of those had the AMG options above?

I am just getting my head around all the "wisdom" with these so currently having the ABC flushed (was already green but just in case) and going through the car, front discs and pad change, replace a blown tv module which took out the DAB radio and a couple of other minor bits to get it tip top.

I will get some pics if anyone is interested.

Absolute beast of a car. There was one near me as I saw it at the train station pre lockdown. It was the only one I had ever seen.

Pictures needed! Never seen a V12 with factory AMG kit. One of the forum users has a V12 and he added AMG bumpers, so I know they exist.

If you write to Mercedes-Benz HQ in Stuttgart, enclosing photocopy of your V5 , they will provide this information.

Will take some more when it’s back from the garage but here is a random one of the rear seats I had. Nice touch from MB with the V12 logo in the seat backs. These appear to have been barely sat in!

Prepare for takeoff :)

Sounds like a really special car. S Classes are amazing. Even more so when they've got an AMG'd V8 or a V12 bolted in.

Just a pity they never went ahead with the V16 🙁

I've spoken to anyone and she is DEFINITELY interested.

Love the S600. Can't remember seeing one with AMG kit.

Was that genuinely planned at one point?
They built 85 prototype 800SEL cars on the W140 chassis , which were tested extensively, and there was reputedly a V24 , basically two M120 V12s joined together , for the Maybach , but I don’t know that any were actually built .

With so many V16s built , surely at least a couple survive ?

I never heard of the V18 , but there have been a few references to the V16 , built in response to BMW’s , as was the M120 V12 , and that 85 were built and extensively tested before failing to get approval from the board .

Ed over at Divine detailing is working his magic currently on the car so I hope to be able to post some pictures next week!

I think the S600 and the SL600 where more common a few years back, seen very few recently (same applies to BMW 760 and before that the 850).

I guess it's to do with spiralling fuel prices, stricter emission requirements, higher taxation etc.

That, combined with the fact that these days massive amount of power and torque can now be squeezed-out of much smaller engines, and the fact that a V12 front-engined car (as opposed to mid-engine) can never really be truly sporty due to the sheer weight and the very awkward weigh distribution - I guess that's one reason why the SL500 (and later the SL55) were always more popular among keen drivers than the SL600.

V12 Limos still have their place in Plutocracies... e.g. the S600 Pullman.

All of the above makes the V12 cars of old quite a unique ownership experience.
