Now that I have succumbed to an iPhone...:o there are many cars with ipod/iphone connection kits for listening and controlling it using the steering wheel controls and for viewing the playlists etc.etc....

With new mobile phone releases such as the new google phone does anyone know if manufacturers will release phones that are compatible with ipod/iphone connectivity that way they will be more universal....or maybe they are missing a trick here???

Or have they already? Probably more to do with the connector being patented!!

Secondly is there a way of showing the playlist on comand similar to what is shown in the instrument cluster? I can see the tunes when I play a cd.....

Mark.

I connect My I-Phone 3GS via ipod connector in my CLK this is displayed via the Aux input in the Command Centre and in turn, displays the track playing, (as like the CD Multichange does what CD and what track), and you can control it via the steering wheel, eg volume, or select track on a play list. As for changing a playlist via the steering wheel, I've not tried it to be honest, but I think maybe command isn't that smart, though I could be wrong. :dk:

When I connect the iphone and switch the comand to aux the iphone plays music which is great.

Matt...
Are you saying the track is displayed on the comand screen? On mine all I see is a blank screen with blue highlights where the CD - CDC - and Aux buttons are....

However the track is displayed on the MFD between the speedo and rev counter...

It's not likely - car manufacturers are way behind the phone industry and have adopted iPhone/iPod connectivity simply due to the popularity of such devices. Other phones such as the new Google phone, Blackberry's, HTC's etc aren't classed as 'music devices' like the Apple products so are unlikely to get car manufacturers to support them in anything more than simply bluetooth connectivity.

Unfortunately, when playing music from the iPhone, it only displays on the MFD and not on Comand. Mine does the same. I tend not to use my iPhone for this and just burn all my music onto a couple of DVD's and use the 4gb hard drive - you can fit nearly 5gb on a DVD and slot them into the dash!

Yup, only on the MFD and not the command scren sadly, an oportunity missed if you ask me. :( But then its unrealistic to expect command to be up to speed with latest tech developments.

I get the tunes displayed on the comand and the MFD with title and artist. But then I do have a gateway 500 and not the ipod interface from MB and my comand is a NTG2

Yup the gateway 500 is the kit I don't have to enable I-phone3gs/Ipod to be displayed on the Command Screen, might get one though.:thumb:

When I bought my 280 it had an iPhone cradle in the arm rest, and then had another cable running off into the centre console (Comand) presumably for the music, so that you could have your phone and music all in one. It was a branded Mercedes cradle, but I whipped it out and just put a standard iPod cable in the glovebox and bluetooth cradle in the arm rest.

I want one of those.
