Mercedes E350 estate
I have just taken possession of a lovely E350 CDI estate 2011 model
Have paired the phone with bluetooth. If I use the cradle in centre console
can I access SMS and send SMS via linguatronic my SMS are not showing
Music etc all fine.

Thanks that's what I thought. Pity. Although I have just read it's coming.
Drive Kit Plus to be installed in new cars that will allow integration on iPhone Siri
which can be projected on the car screen and then voice activated using linguatronic
thus enabling all voice functions of the iphone and sending of text messages

SMS available if you upgrade to iOS6. (At least with NTG4.5).
I unpaired then repaired and in Bluetooth settings on the phone turned on notifications. Took 30 mins or so for address book to download and SMS option to work.

SMS through BT comes with a very recent bluetooth profile, except that the BT SAP devices and a phone at the UHI cradle (the same thing when seen from the car point of view) already supported SMS for years.

I doubt old head units (anything significantly older than NTG4.5) would support this BT profile unless some telematics updates would introduce it.

If I update my iPhone 4 I will get SMS on my comand on line with out using a sap cradle
Thanks Paul

The iphone - all variants at least as far as 4S do not support SAP anyway.
Iphone is not compatible with COMAND online in the latest units.
SMS does not work - although I think I saw there is a thread now running suggesting that it may be available soon?

Sean is clearly saying that having upgraded to iOS 6 his iPhone 4S now has SMS compatability with comand so this is definitely an improvement from just voice calls - Sean I assume a data connection to power the online functions is still not possible post ios6 ?

Paul - the iPhone 4 can be upgraded to ios6 and as the Bluetooth change is a software rather than hardware one it is likely you will get the same results as Sean with his 4s with your 4 if you upgrade to ios6.

No, still can't go online :-(
But SMS does now work.

COMAND doesn't support the Bluetooth PAN profile yet and Apple seem to show no interest in supporting the older DUN profile. I had read that COMAND will support PAN early next year...we'll see.

Great news. Re configured tonight and yes works perfectly.

Can you confirm what you mean by reconfigure ?

I have an iPhone 4s running ios 6.1 and it connects to my Audio 20 fine , the SMS icon on screen is enabled, bluetooth music streams, calls work fine, apps on phone work through speakers inc tomtom nav and speed cameras ( found that as solution in another post) but it just wont tell me if an sms comes in allow me to read one.

I have rebooted phone, reset bluetooth to diff name, deleted pairings etc etc

All to no avail ......

Very frustrating

Tried phoning dealer to see if they could shed any light and frankly they were about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. I talked to them about another issue and mentioned about reprogramming using Star and the guy clearly didnt have any clue what I was on about, kind of worrying for a service dept

:-(

Help !!!!

^^^^^

There are a couple of little hidden steps you need to take.

1 - Messages must be in "Notification Centre"

2 - "View in lock screen" must be switched to on.

Good luck.

Does anyone know if this works with an iPhone 3GS ?

Tried that, have even tried all 3 banner types. No joy, still waiting on a call back from service dept at local dealer since monday a.m. :-(

Last night message came in while phone was attached to car via bluetooth, once I stopped car the alert immediately appeared on phone, almost like the link was blocking phone in some way.

The weird thing is the SMS bar at bottom of screen becomes available when phone connects via bluetooth so it thinks the phone is capable of the map profile. Siri works flawlessly, shame there wasnt a way of activating it via the audio 20 controller as that would be very cool.

Think I will pop into dealer on saturday morning and see if I can find someone with 'the knowlege'

Does this mean the iso 6.1 will now work on the NTG2.5?
My SMS has disappeared on mine?

I'll be interested on the out come of this as I think I have he same issue; SMS is illuminated on the Comand unit but it says no messages and when one comes in it doesn't appear on it.

PS when this SMS does work is it possible to send messages with Comand (when the car is parked of course!)?

You can only receive SMS messages (and emails too, well they've popped up on my screen anyway!) and it only displays the ones you actually receive whilst the phone is connected, you can't view existing ones for example.
