iPhone notifications only have sound via Bluetooth not USB

Bit of a strange one but my iPhone sound notifications (mail, text, cyclops speed camera alerts) will only work if the phone is connected via Bluetooth whilst playing music but not when I connect via the USB cable. When I'm not playing music on the phone, both methods, USB and Bluetooth will play the sound notification.

It's obviously getting the signal via both methods as they will both play the music.

Have I missed a setting or anything or is this the same for everybody?

I'd rather connect via USB if possible as that way I get album artwork and can search music via the car's wheel/touchpad.

Comments welcome.

PS car is a W205 C Class

I don't know the answer as such, but the car has two Bluetooth modes, one for 'Audio device' and the other for 'Telephony connectivity' (if I remember the phrase correctly).

So it is possible that the USB port only works as an 'Audio device' (i.e. similar to Bluetooth Audio device) and that the Telephony functions are not available via USB?

Bluetooth will obviously support both.

Also, when the phone is connected via USB, presumably it is still paired over Bluetooth in the background?
