iPod connector

My first Mercedes (an E320 CDI Sport saloon (early 2009 "old" model)) is great. Can I connect an iPod (or similar) to it? It has a lovely Comand system and a long, thin socket at the left side of the glovebox. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place or it does not have this facility.

Also, where can I get a suitable connection lead?

Cheers!

You need a lead with a 3.5mm jack plug at each end - one end into the the socket in your glovebox, and one end in your iPod earphone socket - and then press the AUX button on your COMAND unit.

Get the lead from ebay for pennies or an electrical shop for pounds.

All it will do is playback - it won't allow control through COMAND - you need to control through iPOD itself. Works for me.

Assuming it has the Media Interface (the long, thin connector in the glovebox suggests it has) then you need the connection lead set from your friendly MB Dealer at ~ £55 and then your iPod can be connected to the car and controlled from the steering wheel with display of folders/tracks etc on both COMAND and the instrument cluster. You could also connect a USB stick using the same lead set, or a non-iPod portable player through the 3.5mm jack lead - but in that case all you would be able to control from the car is the volume.

Amazon can do you the lead under a quid posted (3.5mm - not the Media Interface one :))

As for the ipod, set it to shuffle and press play.

Unless the car has the Media Interface, in which case it doesn't have a 3.5mm socket unless you buy the lead set :(

Very helpful indeed. Should the leads have come with the car in the first place? It is an ex-demo, so they might have disappeared en route to me!!

No, the leads are an accessory you have to buy separately - which I think is extremely mean when you consider the price of the car

Interestingly you say they are optional, I was in a E coupe in a showroom the other day, and there was a set of leads in the glovebox.
I gave them to my friendly salesman and said "someone will nick these if you leave them there" so he put them somewhere safe.

Which sort of suggests some dealers may include the leads !

I saw exactly the same in an E class coupe on Thursday. Didn't say anything to the dealer though - in case somebody else had been casing the point:devil:
