If you intercept the radio signal into an FM modulator you can inject an iPOD FM output into any head unit.

From another forum I saw a way of doing it.

I quote the following from the thread ........

I finally got around to installing an auxilliary audio input in out ML this afternoon. I plan to use it mainly for my iPod.

The pictures show a little more detail. It is a very simple install. I used a JVC FM hardwired modulator with RCA inputs. I simply plugged a RCA to stereo phone plug into the modulator and routed the plug to underneath the center console. Other people may prefer to have the plug in the glove box, or somewhere else.

The modulator that I chose ($40 from Crutchfield), senses the audio input, so you don't need to wire and mount an on/off switch. I powered it from ignition-on power by tapping into the instrument cluster fuse with a fuse extender in the passenger footwell fuse box. The modulator itself was mounted beneath the glove box. Since I already have the VES installed, it was daisy-chained after the VES modulator. So I have vehicle antenna to VES modulator to iPod modulator to MCS. I have not noticed any decrease in FM signal yet.

The stereo cable allows me to put the iPod in the parcel net or in the center console. I can remove the modulator in probably 15 minutes with absolutely no trace that it was ever installed. This was a major goal for me - no wires tapped, cut, etc.

Total price of the components was probably around $60 - $40 for the modulator and $6 for the fuse extender and ground terminal, and around $15 for an antenna adapter. The antenna adapter was necessary since the modulator came with domestic antenna connectors, and the MCS uses the Motorolla type connectors.

I wrapped the modulator in foam tape and wedged it in on top of the main electronics module for the VES. I did not fasten it in any other way. The cables were secured with a couple of cable ties.

On my short test drive, it sounded very good. Indistinguisable from CD, IMHO. I do have to turn up my iPod volume to max to get a decent signal out of it.

Oh how I wish someone will make a DB2 fiber optic interface for the iPod .
