iPod Kit/Ipod compatibility

I read on this forum that there are varying levels of campatibility between the oem iPod kit and the vast array of iPods available on the market.

I have bought the kit, but am yet to fit it and then have it programmed into the COMAND system. As such I am going to buy an iPod for the car which will only be used in the car.

I may well end up buying one from eBay but don't want to spend too much as obviously all I need it to do is hold 100-150 albums.

Is there anywhere that shows compatibiltiy or is there a general rule of thumb as to which one to get?

Most of the ipod's work it's just some of the newer ipods that are not supported

The latest ipod kits support all the ipods/iphones.

Personally I have a nano and a classic. I leave them in the car all the time and only ever take them out to add new songs.
