Hi all.

1. I have a W211 (2005 model) with COMAND APS. There is an AUX input hiding in the glovebox.

2. Last night, I won and iPod Shuffle in a raffle. Yay!

3. How easy is it to marry the two - i.e. is there any point in prolonging the vain hope that all I have to do is buy a suitable short lead and simply plug it in?

Cheers,

Nice work fella.

Assuming the Shuffle has the same earphone socket as the Classic, you just need a 3.5mm jack lead. I bought a posh one from the Apple store but a cheapie would do too.

You can use the AUX socket in the glove box but this wont charge the ipod, wont show track names in the cluster nor be controllable (track/playlist/artist selection) from your steering wheel. all you will be able to do is to adjust the volume/sound.

The Mercedes ipod kit will do all this for you.

My thanks...

Many thanks, guys.

I know the track selection/display/charge/etc won't work just on a 3.5mm jack lead, but it will get me going, so I'm quite happy with that for the time being.

The iPod integration kit would be nice to have - particularly if it does indeed offer track selection/display/etc. However it will have to wait until more pressing whizz bangery has been purchased, such as a bluetooth hfp module for the centre arm rest and an up-to-date nav DVD with head unit update (ETA etc).

This forum really is a veritable mine of technical knowledge, and herein obviously lurk some very knowledgeable people. I knew you would be able to help!

Does a W211 2005 model with Audio 20 system have an AUX input in the glovebox (or anywehere) - I have searched for it but haven't located it.

Would it do all this with a shuffle?

I have a W203 pre facelift with the Audio 10 cd. Is it possible to hook up a shuffle to that too? Easily?

No it doesnt. In terms of the current cars (but pre MY2009) the SL/SLK dont have aux on any unit, and the E/CLS only have AUX on COMAND-APS. No aux input means no Mercedes iPod kit ... Dension GW500 (MOST) works pretty well (pretents to be a CD changer), but the Audio20/Audio-50 don't support CD text and thus playlist control / track names arent available. (but you can control it from the iPod itself)

If you go to the older cars, only COMAND2.0 has an aux input facility, and MB didnt bother to put the socket in on some model years, and never on the W163 ML - it can easily be added though. Audio 10, Audio-30, Audio-30-APS, COMAND 2.x will all work with the Dension GW 500 (D2B) - but again none support CD text so a little tricky to use.
