I think I already know the answer, but I'm hoping I've got this wrong!

I have a CD Comand unit with a cassette player built in. I do not have an auxiliary in point in the glove box. I do have the CD multi in the boot.
Is there a simple way to get the audio from an IPOD into the Comand? For example I have a TV option which is not enabled, will I find standard phono in's at the rear of the Comand in the TV section into which I can input the IPOD outs?
I'm not too bothered about charging the IPOD, or seeing it on the screeen, or changing tracks, just want to put it on shuffle and listen to it through the Comand.
Any ideas at all please!!!
thanks

i think with that model you have to get the ipod kit from mercedes and use the cd changer output (your cd changer will be disconnected)hope it helps and if i am wrong somebody will put us right regards jon

do you have an aux feed if you press SYS button on the comand??

if so you could just get a feed put in for it and put the ipod in there , i have done that and it sounds great but no control over the ipod

The Mercedes kit is only for MOST based cars from mid-late 2004 onwards.

If you have an AUX port in the glovebox, you can simply plug your MP3 player into that and it will play through the comand. If not, then perhaps the Dension gateway 500 is the thing for you. This is used at the expense of a CD changer.

Just thought i'd add my experience on this subject, hope it's relevant! I plugged my iPod into the aux port in glove box which, although works, the COMMAND volume has to be increased considerably, but then, standby for any TM broadcasts, they will deafen you, plus, if misses is in car, you will need to help her down from cabin ceiling. Speaking from experience!

Thanks for all replies so far.

I do not have an AUX in, in the glove box. I havent tried pressing the SYS button looking for an indication of the ablity to accept aux in, will do this evening.

Any thoughts on whether I could get audio through the TV in section in the Comand?

The device you have linked to will work on anything that has a radio and aerial input.

To the posters who complained about the aux input being quiet: tried turning up the volume on the ipod? Serious question, not fitted my aux cable yet.

I have done that Shude, still quiet unless COMMAND volume is higher than would be normal for CD and Radio output. I believe i will just have to live with it.

My mp3 player is deafening when on volume 5 or 6+ and it goes up to 30 so I'm sure I'd get away with it, although it did pretend to be dead on Tuesday so I nearly bought an iPod...

thanks. Next question (maybe I should start a new thread) Is it easy to remove the comand 2.5 unit to get to the aeriel input? I have the keys, not sure if it is as simple as a standard car radio.

Thanks again

I have an aux input on my comand and the volume control is just fine when Traffic cuts in.

Make sure with the ipod the volume limit isnt on, go into settings on the ipod to set it higher . Set the sound check to off as well again in settings

I had comand retrofitted to my e class and had the MB aux socket fitted at the same time in the centre console works well enough that even though i have just bought a denison gateway 500 i'm not going to bother fitting it.

The only downside is the control of the ipod but the gateway kit isnt a perfect solution either.

you can buy a ipod adapter from Boots the chemist it looks like a cassette with a wire from it, you push it into the cassette as normal and connect your i pod to the the other end and hey presto it works great, i have one and have never had any probs with it, and it's £16 !!!
