Hi peeps,
i have ben looking at some head units to swap out for the audio 10 currently installed - and some are 'steering wheel control ready'; so far so good.

Question is - what level of control can i expect over my ipod (6th gen 120gb classic) through the s/w controls?? Can i change albums etc??

cheers

Hi Rob,

with the official MB iPod kit, you can select/change track, album, artist, podcast, genre, playlist - all by using the 2 phone buttons on the steering wheel and up/down arrow buttons.

However I believe you need to have the COMAND head unit to accept the iPod interface, and that Audio 10 or 20 won't do it.

I have this kit in conjunction with my COMAND system, it's a little awkward at first but it doesn't take long to get used to the control method.

One drawback - track data only shows up in your dash display (between clock and rev counter), not on the COMAND display :(

Cheers,
Eddie.

What HUs have you shortlisted??

Hi Robb,

I retro fitted this when i took delivery of my w209 clk in '05, this was fitted to an Audio 20 with no problem. As long as the Audio 20 is similar i can't see that being a problem.
Dealer had never done one so had to explain and get them to enable phone controls on steering wheel.

Woohoo! the new HU is installed - see:

Although despite having an "Ipod Ready" HU and the correct stalk adaptor (CELSUS ASC2519): The steering wheel contols do not work

they should......................... :wallbash:

Does anyone have any ideas????

As far as I'm aware the only ipod interfaces that work properly with all the steering wheel controls and the instrument cluster etc are the genuine Mercedes ones.

If the maker claims that they should with that head unit then you could try getting the instrument cluster coded for telephone = PRESENT.

Thanks Alfie - ill give it a go

PS Bought the HU and had it fitted by car audio people who supplied all of the adaptors fascia etc as reccomended in the big book
